Denise couldn't believe her luck. The first hand was dealt, & she got:

Denise had been dealt an Ace-high flush!

Tony & Bev each asked for 3 cards, & Jessica asked for 4. When they all showed their hands, Denise easily had the highest hand. Tony had 3 of a kind, Bev a pair, & Jessica had an Ace-high nothing.

Jessica bit her lower lip, & laughed nervously. "I guess I'm the first loser of the night," she said. Then, she removed 1 of her sandals.

"Um, Jessica," Denise told her, "I'm afraid it's both sandals. Shoes only count as 1 item of clothing. Also, belts, accessories, jewelry... None of that counts as an item of clothing."

Jessica made a silent "oh" with her mouth, & removed her other sandal, placing it by the first, next to her chair.

Denise took the cards, & dealt the next round.
