Chapter 9 by Gfoxx2 Gfoxx2

Aw shit, when did she wake up?

More head pets and a heart to heart

Roy searched through his mind for something to say, but couldn't find any excuse for his actions. Despite his clear memories of Gwen, he still had no idea what the social norms for dog/human interaction were in this new world. His jumbled memories seemed crystal clear when it came to his personal experiences, but whenever he tried to think about any changes to the world at large, his headache just got worse.

So he didn't provide an answer, and just kept scritching and petting behind her ears, waiting for her to tell him to stop. She opened her eyes in surprise that he was still going, and they looked at each other again, much the same way they did before when they were holding hands. Her face was a little red with embarrassment, not that it was really noticeable through her tan.

"Roy, what are you doing?" she asked him quietly.

"You don't like it?" he responded.

She squirmed against his touch. It was obvious she enjoyed it. "It's so weird."

"Then tell me to stop."

She didn't. She sat there, head on the bed, resting comfortably, as Roy continued to tease her. Eventually though, Roy's hand got tired, and he was **** to draw his hand back. "Sorry," he said, "I might have gone too far."

She sat up quickly, giving Roy a view of her chest wobbling under her hooded sweatshirt as she did so, and shook her head. "No, it's fine." She turned her eyes away from his. "I liked it."

Silence pervaded the room. Roy kicked himself internally for making things so awkward. What had even possessed him to do that in the first place? I mean, she was adorable, but that was no excuse for touching her in her sleep.

Gwen eventually broke the silence. "Uh, Roy, there's something... ah fuck it, I gotta ask you something."

Roy sat up in his bed, listening intently. "I'm an open book, Gwen, you know that."

"Okay, okay. Fuckin... breathe, girl. You got this," she muttered to herself. "Alright, alright." She looked him dead in the eyes. She hesitated for a moment, fear and anticipation plain on her face. "Roy, we've know each other for years, right?"

Roy nodded.

"And, uh, you like girls right?"

He nodded again, slower this time, confused by the question.

"And... you... you don't mind... dog girls, right? Like, you're not a human only guy?"

Roy searched his memories, trying to understand the meaning behind her words. In the Gwen timeline, he remembered how awkward she had gotten around him recently, pretty much ever since he graduated. Maybe it was because they were going to the same college now, but he'd been seeing a lot more of her lately. When she graduated and started college, she ended up spending way more time on campus than hanging out with Roy and Sam. And, while her company was always welcome, there was some tension between the two of them. At first, he just chalked it up to her being older than him. While two years is barely anything in the long run, it seemed like an endless gulf for a college freshman. But there was something else there. He remembered cancelling plans with his new college friends just to spend time around this adorable dog. Was he... crushing on her? Was she crushing on him? Without the perspective of his other life, he probably would have never reached that conclusion in this timeline, but right now, it seemed plain as day.

Roy smiled at her, feeling red in the face himself now, and broke off from his internal thoughts. "Gwen, are you going somewhere with this?"

She snorted, the embarrassment replaced with a mild annoyance. "Yeah, I'm going somewhere with this, asshole. Look, I'm single, you're single, maybe... you know..." she trailed off.

Roy couldn't help but tease her. "I don't know. What are you getting at?"

She bristled at him. "We could, uh, not be single? With each other?"

Roy was elated at her words. He'd seen this coming, sure, but it was still a delight to hear the words come from her mouth. "Was this your plan the whole time?" he asked, still in a teasing mood. "Get me messed up on one of Sam's experiments so you can lay me down in your bed?"

She punched him in the arm, lightly. "Ass. Seriously, what do you think of me?"

He motioned for her to come closer. Hesitantly, she did, and as soon as she was within range, he put his arms around her, and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. While she stiffened against him at first, she melted into it quickly, her tail wagging behind her furiously.

They separated and again stared longingly at one another. Roy could've spent the whole night there, trapped in her golden eyes. Eventually though, he was the first to speak. "Yeah, let's not be single." He could see the happiness in her face, and knew that it was mirrored in his own expression. "So what do you want to do now?" he asked slyly. She blushed again, her wagging tail smacking against the side of her chair, as she thought his question over.

So what does the dog whisperer and his charge get up to?
