Chapter 7

Where do you go next?
Go tho the place she knows
The place she suggested is good enough.
“I think the place you suggested sounds good.” You say handing her the soda.
“Good, this way.” She answered taking the soda and giving me a beckoning finger to follow her.
I wasn’t sure but I felt certain that she had added a little extra sway to her ass as I caught up to her. We made small talk as we walked about nothing and everything. We talked about the past, about everything you had thought of, the great stories on both sides as you walked down to the soccer field and turned left to a small clearing just off the jogging trail overlooking the lake, or at least what remained of the lake. Over the years, as the park had expanded, the lake that was behind the soccer field had seemed to shrink. When we were kids, the lake had come up just about come up to the jogging path on the far end of the field and ended around the midfield line leaving a grassy tree strewn area that had been left to overgrow where we were headed. Now the lake was barely visible at the far end of the field and the high grass and trees had been cut back into a nice shaded picnic area. After a moment, we found a table next to a water fountain where we sat down and watched the sun go down.
“Hey,” I asked as soon as we were settled facing each other. “So where do you live?”
“Oh,” She said straightening as if looking for someone or something. Then, she pointed just across the small bit of lake you could see diagonally from where we were sitting. “You see that white house with the deep red roof.”
“Which one?” I asked moving so that I was in line with her line of sight and putting my back right against her and the table.
“That one.” She said placing her arm over my shoulder and pointing a huge two story white house with a brick red roof right at the corner of the lake.
“Okay, I see it, you live in that huge house?” I asked feeling the combination of her breasts and belly pushing into my back and shoulders.
“Well, not exactly.” She answered pressing herself harder into me. “The owner is a friend of my mom’s. Do you see the small building behind the main house?” She asked with a slight sultriness to her voice pressing in tighter than ever.
“Yeah, what is that, a guest house?” I asked feeling her baby kick me repeatedly high on my back.
She must have realized what was going on because she loosened up quickly. “Sorry, he’s rather active right now.” She said with a hint of embarrassment in her voice. “Anyway, sort of. It’s a garage with a loft space above it.”
I turned to look at her in surprise. “Loft space?”
“Yep, one big room shower and tub are even open, so I can’t even change if I have anyone over. The only thing is there I private toilet on the ground floor, so there’s that.” She laughed as she sat back and finished her soda. “But that’s the perfect thing about it. Thomas and his stupid group would never look for me there. So I’ll hide out there till I squeeze this one out, and get my divorce. Then, if they try to grab me on the street, it’s **** plain and simple.”
“I see.” I said turning around. She was about to hand me the empty bottle when I noticed that the front of her shirt was soaked. “Wow, you’re really sweating hon.” I said before I could stop myself and be polite.
She quickly felt the front of the cotton shirt before sitting back again. “No, it’s just past the time I usually pump, so I’m leaking. This shirt isn’t as absorbent as my bra was.” She once again extended her hand with the bottle. “Hey, can you fill this back up at the water fountain?”
“Leaking?” I asked taking the bottle and walking to the water fountain.
“Yeah, you know milk.” She answered with a look on her face that questioned my intelligence if I didn’t know about this.
“Oh right,” I said filling the bottle. “But doesn’t the hurt if the baby isn’t sucking on them?” I asked feeling rather stupid.
“Well, the first one, yeah. They hurt quite a bit when I would fill up, and even with the second one especially in the morning. I don’t know if it’s because it’s so close to the last, but with this one they just sort of overflow. It’s been weird, a lot of pregnancy things have been different with this one.” Sha said leaning on her knees while taking the bottle and draining half in one swig. “All I feel, is like a swollen cow.”
“A cow?” I asked sitting back down on the table.
“Yep!” She said getting on all fours. “Moooooo”
I began laughing as she got back on her knees again. “I guess.”
Slowly the sky around us turned a bright orange as we sat joking and laughing about life and time in general. Twice more she asked me to refill her bottle with water and it was on my second trip back I realized that she hadn’t told me the secret of our senior year.
