Brian (the husband)

A man opened the door. He was tall and muscular, as well as handsome, and had a telltale ring on his left hand.

"Hi," he said, "I'm Brian. I haven't seen you around, are you the one who just moved in next door?"

"Yes, my name's Jessie Goodman. My husband is Nick, he's still getting everything ready, and I figured I'd come say hi."

"Well, Jessie, let me be the first to welcome you to Fidelity, come on in and have a seat."

He moved out of the way, and she walked in. He led her to the living room, and gestured to the couch, and she sat. Brian looked through a shelf of books for a moment, before pulling one out. "Here we go!" he brought it over to her, and sat down next to her. "This is the official history and guide book of Fidelity. Jack will probably give one to you before long, act surprised." he gave her a wink.

"Jack?"

"Oh, Jack is the Mayor. A swell guy, Jack."

He opened the book to a painting of two women, one black and one white. "That there," he said, pointing at the black one, "Is Fidelity Anna Rose Bunde, the founder of this little town."

"And who is she?" Jessie pointed at the other woman.

"Oh, that's Aggie Bunde. She took Fidelity's name when they were married."

"Married?!"

"Yes ma'am, they were lovers, and built this town because they weren't allowed nowhere else. Found the only pastor in the states who was willing to marry them and set him up in the church." he looked at her carefully, "You don't have a problem with this sort of thing, do you?"
