Chapter 3 by KingOfBohemian KingOfBohemian

The First Day of School

Day One

It was commonly said that this was the first day of the rest of your life, but that was really the day you graduated. This was the first day of senior year in Amorous High School. It wasn't exactly the rest of your life, was it?

Summer seemed to not last nearly as long as it had the year before, but all the same everyone was excited for the first day. The new freshman finally got to be a part of the teen scene, the sophomores were one step above the freshman and finally had a little taste of social control in the school. The juniors felt more experienced and carefree than they did last year, this year was going to be a breeze for them. Then the seniors, the alphas of the whole pack, a bunch of young adults getting a taste of true freedom outside of school and having finally the control of being the top dogs in class. As well as that one last final step towards graduating and being freer than ever before, or so everyone thinks.

The day had just begun, the freshmen were in orientation in the gym and everyone else had gotten their schedule from the few hundred papers lined out on the cafeteria tables.

The first class that Carter had gotten this year was English. The first class was always seen as the "home room" and was thirty minutes longer than the rest of the class periods. After English, was math, Carter was in an lower math class than what his grade required him to take and that was a little unsettling but with the help of his tutor this year, he should be able to pass none the less. Nothing special happened there. Following math Carter went on to history class, then there was a lunch break.

Carter was greeted by an abundance of kids, mostly the popular ones. While walking through the cafeteria with some of his teammates from the football team he winked and smiled at all the cheerleaders and pretty girls he could find. Most of them smiled and giggled back, but a few just rolled their eyes. He spent his lunch with his mates, they laughed and talked about football, a bit excessively and said their goodbyes once the bell rang.

After lunch it was back to the classes. Gym class was next, then after that was citizenship class, which was required to pass to graduate these days, and finally, the elective hour. Carter didn't really have a class per say but an extension of his football practice. It was a class that was designed specifically for kids on the sports teams, football, soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, dance, and so on; but it only contained the seniors. It was a chance for them to all get together and collaborate, work on their team building skills and find help in each other for sports and academics.

Once school ended Carter went over to his best friends house, Blake. They played video games and talked about girls for most of the night till Carter got home to his mom and her new boyfriend out of the house for the night. Carter had a fantastic day but the fact that his mom wasn't there to share it with her made him feel a little sad. He went to bed shortly after getting home and his happiness had slowly faded into a fit of anxious sleep where he felt that something was going to be off with the day tomorrow.
