Mina Mongoose

You spot a yellow mongoose sitting on a small tree-stump in front of a river. You step a little closer, not sure what’s going on, and she stops, seeing your reflection in the water. She swings around.

“Oh-oh!” She blushes. “D-did you hear that?”

You nod.

“Oh no oh no…” she mumbles.

“What’s wrong?” you ask. “It sounded beautiful. I don’t know what you’re so embarrassed.”

She looked up at you. “R-really?” you see her big, watery, purple eyes sparkle. “You liked it?”

You nod. You casually walk up to the river, taking in it’s crystal-clear beauty; lucky that dick Eggman never made it here.

“My name’s John,” you say. “John Doe. I just moved here after my family and friends… well…”

“Oh!” she exclaimed. “You’re the new Overlander who just arrived!”

“Over-what?”

“Overlander. That’s what we call you…you…”

“Humans.” you respond. Just like you call them Furries.

“I’m so sorry what happened to your family…”

“Ah, don’t be.” you look up at the blue sky. “There was nothing anyone could do to help. I’m just glad Sir Charles helped me when he did…”

There was a pause for a moment.

“By the way,” she said. “My name’s Mina Mongoose.”

“Well then, Mina,” you say, heading for the forest. “It was nice meeting you. Maybe I’ll see you again sometime…”

As soon as you start heading out, she calls.

“Wait!” she says.

You turn around, slightly confused.

“Wanna hang out, or something…?” she smiles.
