As I turned round the bend to begin another lap, the track now led directly toward the door to the stairwell that would take me back to the gym floor, just before which it would make another curved turn to the left.
After looking to make sure I was safely out of Kathy?s eyeshot (She was far too concerned for my well being to let me get away with even the minor compromise of what I was about to do), I made a sudden decision, and instead of turning left with the track, made a dash for the heavy wooden double doors that led to the stairwell. I pushed them open and dashed in as quickly as I could, entering the bare cement stairway without comment from my class mates, and not a moment too soon. It seemed impossible to hold it any longer.
