Ask which bed is yours

You decide you should probably make sure you settle down in the right bed, so you go back out to the living room. No one is there, and you assume Mom Lutz is in her room or in the restroom. Just as you are deciding what to do, there is a soft knock at the door. You open it and find Tom, the young man who helped you with the luggage.

He seems rather surprised to see you and says, “Oh, I thought you were asleep. I ... um ... needed to talk to Marsha for a minute.”

Before you can respond, Mom Lutz emerges from her room. She has changed clothes, and you can hardly believe what she has on. It is a skimpy, see-through piece that leaves very little to the imagination. You are surprised she would wear such a thing around anyone, let alone a man young enough to be her son. She seems unembarrassed, however, when she sees you and Tom and approaches you casually.

“Tomika, dear, you are still up! Is there anything wrong?”

You explain that you were unsure of the bed to use, but you notice Tom is looking with the utmost interest at her body, his eyes practically popping out of his head, and making no disguise of his interest in her.

“Oh, I’m sure it doesn’t matter which bed you pick. Candy isn’t exactly fussy about whose bed she sleeps on. Just pick one that suits you.”

She says these words to you, but you notice she is looking at Tom and it appears that she has a somewhat hungry look in her eyes. You dismiss this thought as impossible and say goodnight to the two of them.

As you return to your room, you hear Mom Lutz say, “Tom, come with me and let’s discuss what’s on your mind.” You look over your shoulder and see Tom follow the older woman into her bedroom. In his eagerness to get there, he fails to pull the door completely shut behind him.

You shouldn’t snoop around — particularly in a home where you are a guest, but this all seems so odd that you really feel tempted to see if you can catch a peek of what is going on. Surely, it is all a big misunderstanding and totally innocent!
