She just can't catch a break...

A few months later, it is early October. The Plutonian Empire has begun to struggle in international relations. Being the only post-scarcity society in the world was triggering greed on the part of many foreign nations, as everyone began trying to increasingly scam the Plutonian Empire in order to get its resources for free. As the miniscule human immigration to the Empire ground to a halt again, King Gene was continuing to have to rely on supernatural entities populating the military, and on nuclear sabre-rattling in order to maintain national safety.

Fortunately, Pluton Island was magically protected anyway, and intruding Navies were blocked from reaching its shores.

Closer to home, King Gene continued to be the main focus of the succubus Anni's affections, and eventually Leokadia's, as she and Jasmine were regulars at Gene's Hangout. Tonight, however, something was off. Jasmine had been pretty somber all evening, and even Leokadia, Jasmine's closest new friend, couldn't get her to spill the beans.

Right now, Gene was messing with his smartphone at Adelle's bar, sitting closest to the wall. Leokadia was sitting next to him, her hands clasped together as she leaned her cheek on them, mindlessly watching the King's phone screen.

Jasmine entered the building, and walked up to Gene and Leokadia. Leokadia noticed first as Jasmine walked up between her and Gene, and Jasmine tapped his shoulder. He looked up to see a redfaced Jasmine, noticing it was plainly obvious she had finished sobbing.

"Jasmine," Gene was acutely concerned as he started speaking. "Is everything all right?"

"No." Jasmine was unusually terse for someone who just sobbed, and was still fighting the lump in her throat. Before speaking further, she turned to Leokadia.

"Honey, you're gonna need a new home tonight. That's all I can say."

Leokadia's jaw dropped halfway open as she lifted her head off her clasped hands.

"Wha--?"

Jasmine didn't let Leokadia finish, as Jasmine looked back at Gene and gestured him to come with her. He and Jasmine walked through the doors into the freezing air.

"Gene..." Jasmine turned to Gene as they reached the top of the steps, holding back tears. There was a dark sedan waiting for her. "This... This is good bye." Gene immediately got goosebumps, and definitely not from the ice cold air.

"Wh... Why?" Gene began to hold back his forming tears as his own lump in the throat showed up.

Jasmine looked down, and bit her lip, before looking back at Gene again.

"Well... We have re-incarnation, right baby?" Jasmine was visibly struggling not to cry either. Gene, knowing he was now magically immortal, knew exactly what this meant. Jasmine, the hooker Johnathan O'Vampie cheated on his wife with. Jasmine, the woman who spent several months escaping an abusive pimp. Jasmine, a beautiful woman who gave him 2 months of a good time and helped Leokadia move on from her abusive, hateful mother.

"Don't worry, King Gene. I'll be back, someday." Jasmine planted a kiss on Gene's cheek. It was this moment that he intuitively realized Jasmine was his future daughter. Goosebumps covered him again as he spoke up.

"See ya, Jasmine. It was nice seeing ya again." Gene slowly touched the spot Jasmine kissed him on the cheek, as she got into the waiting sedan. The car turned left at the intersection separating the Hangout from Neuve Pluton Flats, Gene's home. The car sped past two similar-looking homes halfway down the street, one home which would be the future home for Gene and his future Queen.

At that moment, the car exploded. Gene screamed as he began running towards the site, but it was already too late. Out of nowhere, a large, spider-shaped shadow appeared behind Gene and tackled him to the ground. It was a spider wraith, one of several assigned to Secret Service duties to keep Gene safe.

Hearing the boom, Adelle, Leokadia, and a few other guests emerged to find the sobbing King on the street, held in place by the spider wraith as firemen arrived to put out the fire. Leokadia collapsed to the sidewalk in tears as soon as she realized what had transpired. Again, she needed a new home, in addition to losing her only positive mother figure.

In the following days, Leokadia moved into Neuve Pluton Flats, to live with Gene, as he was the only other human she trusted at this point...
