Chapter 4 by tsuj tsuj

What should she do?

The girl comes first

This was wrong. Although this girl was a complete stranger, simply leaving her to whatever fate this monster had in mind left a bad taste in her mouth.

She swallowed the fear built in her throat, and nodded towards the bound girl. "Let her go."

The bug-man cocked its long neck, unimpressed. "You won't come peacefully?"

"Not until she's set free," Nami replied.

Capilla loomed closer, his large shadow completely overtaking the pirate woman's slender frame. "That won't do, no no it won't..." His four arms flexed out, though thin it was obvious they each long limb held its fair share of muscle. "The Lord needs his weekly tribute. If not her... Would you take her place?" Yellow eyes blinked down with dangerous intent. "That's the only condition in which I'll let her go..."

Nami's eyes nervously shifted between the large caterpillar and the tribute behind him. "What does it mean to be a tribute?" If she was lucky, maybe things simply looked worse than they appeared.

"Entertainment."

"Eh?" she felt a chill crawl down her spine.

"Trapped inside this world, the Lord has graciously decided to host a public event each week in which a tribute is to offer his town a good show."

The Cat Burglar was scared to ask what this show entailed. The current tribute certainly looked like she had seen better days, but then again so did the rest of the town. If she could help them somehow...

"What happens in these shows?" she asked.

Capilla smiled. "Do you want to see? If you won't follow me right now, why not stay and watch? It's just about time after all... Of course, if you care so much for this woman, the offer to take her place still stands as well."

He was having too much fun playing her with vague replies, that much was for sure. He crossed his four arms in front of his broad chest, patiently tapping his fingers against the edge of his pointy elbows. "Well?" his smile grew as he waited expectantly. "Time is ticking..."

She'd have to choose...
