Chapter 2 by Flirty Flirty

That "unique" change

It happened so fast...

"Have a good evening Mr Doe ! See you tomorow!"

I didn't bother responding, I just head to the front door, leaving work late as usual. The front receptionist... Clara I think... watched me as I walked in the ever darkening street. She was quite attractivebut my mind was busy as I was already thinking about the perfect meal and the expensive wine waiting for me in my loft. The day was long and boring just like any other, and my stomach was growling something like "Quickly! You're hungry can't you tell?" as I was walking to the parking lot.

It felt so boring today, like I could just throw everything away and move to another country. Or quit my job and start a new life as a... Working as... something different. But of course I would, nor could ever make such drastic changes to my life. I was just waiting, for a sign or anything. But of course, it wasn't coming.

As I was exhaling a deep sigh, I saw what I supposed was a homeless man under ton of ragged clothes begging for money. Crackheads weren't coming to this part of town but the beggars were almost a common sight. Quickening my pace as I walked in front of him, I suddenly heard a faint mechanical-like sound. I stopped and looked at the man... Or rather at the mountains of disgusting clothes covering him, but I was unable to pinpoint where the sound was coming from. Feeling suddenly awkward, looking at this poor soul as if he were a mutant, I simply kept walking, mumbling "good evening sir" then quicken my pace.

The parking lot wasn't that far from my working place but I started to further increase my pace as I realized the homeless guy was rising from under the clothes and walking in my direction. I could only see his hands as he started to head toward me.

Even though I was walking faster it did me no good, the guy was closing the distance pretty quickly. Strangely enough I couldn't hear a sound, neither his footsteps nor his breathing. My heart was pounding quite fast in my chest by now and I was feeling like an idiot. I started running.

"Shit shit shit! What if the guy spotted my keys? My day was boring but a carjacking is clearly not what I wanted!" I thought. I quickly take a look behind me and surely enough the creepy mountain of clothes was even closer. My now ragging breath and quick footsteps was the only sounds reaching my ears. No car's motor, no voices, not even the god damn wind. It was so surreal I honestly started to doubt my own perceptions.

I finally saw the parking lot after a turn, I sigh in relief. It was a secured paring lot, and I know the guy at the entrance very well. As I start to loose my speed, a big building hides the parking lot from my view once again, but I know I was mere steps from being safe. Looking back one last time I realised the mountain of clothes weren't there anymore. Feeling relieved I stoped running completely and instead walked slowly, catching my breath back.

Then everything hapened very fast.

A shadow passed over my head, making me open my eyes in stupor and direct my gaze upward. The mountain of clothes was falling on me, and pretty quickly too. I barely managed to open my mouth, intending to yell both in confusion and fear, but the falling clothes were faster than I could ever be. No way in hell I could’ve have dodged it.

My vision was suddenly blocked by what I was mistook for dirty clothes but in reality was something else... I struggled frantically, trying to get out of this moving mass but even while stretching my arms as much as possible, I can't feel the cool air of the dark evening. Only the moving... thing.

First it wasn't stinking at all. In fact it was pretty much odorless. Then, the lack of sounds hit me hard. Even as those clothe-looking-things were spinning inexplicably all over my head, I couldn't hear a single sound. No air moving, no sounds of my skin brushed by the strange material, not even my raging breath... Two very large pieces of this same material seems to "glue" themselves on my eyes, making me both deaf and blind to the world. The feeling was both frightening and smothering.

As suddenly as "it" fell on me, I suddenly felt like I was.... Falling. And pretty fast, too. The very first and insane thought that crossed my mind was something like "I'm going to vomit on myself". My head was spinning in the dark and in a dead-like silence, I was falling , faster and faster. At a point, my eyes tightly shut and my mouth open in a never-ending scream of fear, I distinctly felt something like a sharp sting, and passed out a couple of seconds later.

This falling sensation and that sharp stinging sensation where the only memories I kept from what I would call later "my abduction". Hell, my life was taking a big turn, you could say unexpected turn... I wanted change, but this kind of change was far more than I had bargained for.

still alive?
