Telling the Mandalorians
We're gonna need more cake
Once they were all dressed, they stepped out of the bunker. Instead of shouting, Shae keyed the general push on his helmet's comms. As Mand'alor, she'd override all other communications, even interrupting private conversations. "Alright, everyone, I've got an important announcement for you all." All the Mando'ade stopped what they were doing. One of the recruits marching with a backpack dropped exhausted to the ground. Before long the soldiers had formed a semi-circle around the bunker, where Shae used her jetpack to perch atop it.
"I'm going to make this quick. I know a lot of you have been concerned about my long-term leadership. Whether I'm invested in the future of our people beyond the next battlefield. The Clan leaders have mentioned that they feel it's high time I started a family. Then, there's our partnership with the Eternal Alliance. They have given us strong enemies to fight, glory to win, and loot to capture. And their leader is one of us. The Outlander! Ori'beroya!"
The gathered Mando's raised their fists and shouted back. "Ori'beroya! Mandokar'la!" It was clear he was held in high esteem by his adopted people
"It seems clear that if I am to start a family, as Mand'alor, I should choose a worthy spouse. And who else should I choose than our Ori'beroya?" There were numerous shouts of approval of that one. The Outlander also became aware of many visors turning his way. It was not immediately apparent if they were all female, nor if they were definitely looking at him, but he could feel the scrutiny on him.
Shae held up her arms. "Hold up. It's not quite that simple. You see, The Outlander was already involved with the dar'jetii Lana Beniko, here. And they were going to start a family themselves."
One Mandalorian, who had to be close to two meters tall, took off her helmet, revealing a pale feminine face, with a short messy blonde undercut and sapphire blue eyes. "So are you posting a bounty on her to get rid of the competition?" she asked, deadpan. She had a pair of bes'kad - Mandalorian Iron sabers - sheathed at her hips. Numerous other Mandalorians responded by beating on their armor plates with their fists. She met eyes with the Outlander, and gave a subtle wink.
The Outlander touched Lana's arm to keep her from reacting violently. "It was a joke. Tapping the armor is basically applauding or laughing at the clever joke."
"No, Bri'enne, I'd do my own dirty work, if it needed doing. But in this case, we found a better arrangement," Shae said. "The three of us shall be taking the oath together. Dar'jetii, Mand'alor, Ori'Beroya. Together we shall build a future for our families, and our people!" Shae's announcement was met with numerous shouts of "OYA!" and "KANDOSII!" as well as more ribald shouts that The Outlander didn't quite catch the meaning of.
Khomo Fett stepped forward. "Kandosii, Mand'alor. While I'm sure you three are ready to say the oath and get on with it," he said, pausing to allow for wolf-whistles and raucous laughter at the implication, "you owe it to us to celebrate this proper. Not tonight, not tomorrow night, but the night after, we will give you a nuptial feast worth of our leader, our champion, and a Sith lord. And to celebrate our hard-fought victory, to toast the fallen, and to show how Mando'ade embrace all that life offers. So I say now, Outlander, Dar'Jetii, go and make your preparations for the wedding. Prepare your betrothal gifts. We will see you again at the feast!"
It was a clear dismissal, and when he looked at Shae, she tilted her helmeted head as if to say, "What can I do, I'm just the Mand'alor?" He took Lana's hand, and felt her squeeze his, and made their way back to where their speeders were parked.
Soon they were back at the main base. "So... your quarters, or mine?" he asked, smiling at Lana.
"Neither. First, I have much to do if I'm to be ready for a wedding in 2 days. And secondly, what makes you think I've forgiven you yet?"
"Mostly the part where you agreed to marry both Shae and I."
Lana sighed and tilted her head. "Yes, well, good night." She turned and headed to her quarters, but smiled at him before she entered and shut the door behind her.
