Chapter 20
by D!$N3Y
So, I ask again, who's in control?
It's hard to say...
Jeremy had sat in his chair, feeling powerful, sad, and alone, despite having Starfire and Raven by his sides. So much has happened in under a month: planning to make the Teen Titans, some of the greatest heroes in existence, work better together and make them faster, stronger, and smarter individually and as a team. But so far, he's taken two of his idols under his control, almost had the other three hospitalized for hurting them badly. He wasn't sure how this had come to pass; ever since he acquired the amulet and trapped villains inside it to make his their ultimate enemy, besides Trigon, he's felt as his there were voices in his head trying to rule his thinking. He's done well to ignore them, but when he used vocal replication, he could also feel a slight influence of the person he sounded like. 'Am I really making the Titans a better team? Is this worth all this trouble...?' he thought.
"Master?" Starfire asked. "There is something wrong?" She placed a hand on his shoulder, and he immediately stood up.
"No, nothing!" he lied a bit loudly. He realized what he said, and took a deep breath to compose himself. "I'm... I'm OK." The two stood there, both reflecting each other with one hand on the other and over their crotches. "Um, listen. Would it be too much to ask if you both would join me in my bedroom? I got a lot on my mind, and I'd like some comfort." Both of them bowed at the same time, replying, "As you wish, Master." They walked by his side, following him into the bedroom he made for himself at the base.
Meanwhile, in the infirmary, Robin was strapped down in a hospital bed; Beast Boy was coming around inside an indestructible bubble; and Cyborg was strapped to a metal cross with iron shackles around his wrists and ankles, connected to each other by a short chain. "Dude...! I heard shock therapy's supposed to be good for you, but..." He stopped talking when he realized what he was imprisoned in. Again... "Aw, not again!"
"Hey! You think you got problems?" Victor retorted. "I actually feel sick, like I caught a bug or something. And I can't even scan myself!"
"A cyber-bug? That's a new one."
"Could be another virus..." he grumbled aloud.
"I don't really see how guessing is going to get us out of here," Robin interrupted. "We got two brainwashed Titans under the control of an obsessed fan; he's amassed all the power of our past villains; and I can't use any of my gadgets, but we still have to stop him before..."
"Before what?" Beast Boy inquired.
"What do you think?!" Cyborg said in a big snit. "Before we can't bring the girls back ever!" The two started to get into a dispute over why they were defeated: Cyborg's inability to act quicker, or Beast Boy's choices in animal forms, until Robin broke it up.
"Enough! Raven said once that arguing solves nothing. And if we're going to get them back, we need to really work together on this, come up with a plan." The two of them huffed at each other, but looked down sadly; Robin had a point.
What next? Do they get out?
