Chapter 25 by BelleHades BelleHades

Social media was already exploding...

...and a terrified Denver family panicking.

8:21 PM MST (3:21 UTC)

"AAAAAAMYYYYYYY!!!"

Bloodcurling screams interrupted Amy O'Rinn's PC game of Civilization. Amy rapidly got up and ran out her bedroom door to find her mom Shea screaming and crying at the TV. It was a CNN breaking news, informing America of sudden launches of nuclear missiles all over the world. As soon as Amy saw it, she shuddered as powerful surges of goosebumps coursed through her body. Denver was no place to be during an apocalypse, especially nuclear. Amy's phone buzzed with the same news, along with everyone else's in America.

"God damn it! Mom let's go!" Amy ignored her mother's sudden mental breakdown and carried her to the family sedan, which had the highest gas mileage she knew of the family cars. Upon Amy's insistence, the tank had been filled based on her hunch. She rushed to her napping grandmother to wake her up, and grabbed the cat as they both rushed to the sedan. Amy had no license, but she didn't give a damn.

What followed was a half hour of racing through the least used roads Amy and Brighid could find, dodging traffic, and not holding back on cutting across fenceless yards; police be damned! Dutchess, sensing Shea's trauma, did her best to comfort her, as a psychic animal. Using her and her grandma's guts, Amy picked the routes possibly to be the least affected by nuclear attacks. The whole drive, Amy repetitively muttered countless protective spells in Latin, mentally praying to help her and her family.

After a half hour, Amy and Brighid saw several streaks of light all over the sky behind them, and turned as many mirrors away mere moments before a bright light appeared over Denver as tears streamed down their cheeks.

What's next?
