You take Linda McBee aside to review the patients and the procedures you've performed on them during your shift at Labor and Delivery. As you pull up each patient's electronic record, she recounts the procedures in the context of the treatment need. Her voice brightens when she describes any of the tasks which involved examining or touching a patient's vulva or anus. You ask her to describe several of the patients' vulvas as if she were recording them for an examination. The young nurse describes each woman's vulva in in loving detail, recalling points you would have missed or forgotten in the course of a busy shift. Her descriptions bring your own recollections alive, and you feel a tingle of warmth inside.

"I'm impressed with your recall," you tell her. "Especially as most of those procedures were brief and routine. Like the clitoral morphology you noted for Ms. Choi when you collected her urine sample."

Linda nods, her short dark hair tight around her head. "Yes."

"And the details you gave for Mrs. Pearson," you say. "When I examined her, I didn't notice she had previously had her clitoral hood pierced, nor that she had signs of a tattoo removal on her lower back."

"I've seen those before," she says.

"I have to ask," you say. "Is your interest in vulvas primarily clinical?" You keep your voice even.

Her cheeks color. "Was I unprofessional with any patients?" she asks.

"You were attentive to your patients' comfort and medical needs," you reassure her. "I saw no issues with your performance on shift today. And your review of the procedures demonstrates that your have the knowledge and training you need."

"Thank you," she says.

You say, "I see every sign that you will be an effective nurse in this department. Now, would you please describe Brenda Box's vulva?"

Her eyes go wide open. She swallows. Word by word, she describes the deeply pillowed, dripping pink folds of Brenda's sex, just as you remember it, and in even more detail. Your mouth waters, recalling Brenda's scent and taste.

"Perfectly described," you say. "I think you will fit in very well with the staff at Labor and Delivery. Most of us take an interest in gynecological anatomy and physiology beyond the professional. Will you feel comfortable in an environment like that?"

"Brenda said that's why I should come. And talk to Nurse Paul," Linda says.

Brenda, you think with a twinge of jealousy. Or was it Jeannie Goodchild that sent Linda toward Julie? Julie got herself in trouble with an intern before you and Julie got together. But if you're first with Linda, you're sure Julie won't be a problem.

"We keep Room 177 free for the staff to use for our personal interests," you say. "I would be very pleased to give you a personal examination."

"Yes," Linda says. "Thank you, Nurse Bates. I want that very much."
