Don't mess with a Gastly

Jenna was making her way down Route 1 after fairly uneventfully receiving her first Pokémon. Well... "Route" was a bit of a misnomer. The grassy, uneven terrain between Pallet Town and Viridian City barely qualified as a path. How on Earth were people expected to get around?!

This question was the first thing on Jenna's mind as she spent most of her first day as a trainer stubbornly and fruitlessly trying to climb up a short ledge. It didn't seem like that much of a feat at first, but the more she tried the more it seemed like some kind of invisible wall was blocking her progress. This was confirmed when, shortly after sunset, she attempted to throw her new Squirtle over the ledge, only for him to seemingly bounce off of thin air.

Huh. Intriguing. That gave her an idea.

"Squirtle, attack the wall!" She yelled out. Back in Pallet Town, Jenna had a reputation for being stubborn. Which is why, if she couldn't get over this ledge the normal way, she would break her way through. Despite the fact that going around the ledge/wall would be much easier.

After taking several Tackles from Jenna's Squirtle, a visibly annoyed Gastly appeared where the wall had been. Jenna didn't even bother to acknowledge the ethereal Pokémon whose prank she had ruined, instead scooping up her Squirtle and practically leaping up the ledge in triumph, managing to accidentally kick the ghost in the process.

The Gastly's annoyance visably morphed into anger as it began to chant under it's breath while glaring at Jenna, who was currently doing an impromptu victory dance. The girl had caused it great embarrassment by breaking through its wall, and so it struck her with a curse that would return that embarrassment tenfold.
