Chapter 9 by Zingiber Zingiber

Does Gary give her a ride back home?

First to the Candye Kane Scholarship Center

"I was wondering," Carmalita said. "If you're just out driving around if you'd mind giving me a ride back home too. Maybe we could get to know each other better, what do you think?" She smiled brightly at Gary, her deep brown eyes twinkled, and her jacket fell open to reveal her magnificent cleavage.

Gary joked, "I can tell you just want another ride in the Super Surf Van. Let me set you straight Lita, I'm just borrowing it for a few days. But sure, I could give you a ride home or whatever after you get your stuff."

Lita laughed. "Yeah, you're a little pale for a surfer," she said. "But you're cute anyway. Um." She looked away and wrapped herself up in her jacket again.

"What are you taking at the U?" Gary asked.

"Just general education courses," she said. "I don't know what I'm gonna major in yet. My advisor helped me fill out the schedule, and I'm not sure I know what-all I'm taking. But I have the course numbers." She clicked her tongue stud against her teeth.

"You headed up to the bookstore, then?" Gary asked.

"Actually I'm on this special program," she said. "They take care of the books. I just give them my schedule and I pick 'em up."

"You're on a scholarship?"

"Yeah, it's like the red carpet treatment. We got a summer orientation to get to know the campus. And I get a special advisor and me and the other scholars get this private study center and stuff. Kind of like a dorm lounge, but it's got a little kitchen and no TV."

Gary looked over at her, a little surprised. "An academic scholarship?" he asked.

"Yeah, kinda," she said. "I won a writing prize in high school, and the counselor put me in for some scholarships and one paid off. Me who got held back a grade in middle school. Go figure."

"Wow, cool," Gary said. He steered Stuart's big van onto the freeway entrance and merged in.

"Let me turn the A/C down," Gary said. He slid the fan control down to low. "I don't know how you can wear a jacket on a day like this."

"I wear it all the time. Skinny little girl like me, I get cold easy," she said.

Gary glanced over. Despite what she had up front, Lita was actually pretty thin.

"Thanks, the air was up a little high for me." She shrugged off the denim jacket.

"No problem," Gary said.

Gary took another look at his passenger now that the jacket was off. Her big round breasts looked almost out of proportion under her red shirt, and he thought her general slimness made them stand out. Looking back at the road, he mentally sized her up against the other girls he knew. Kind of Sharon's height and breasts with a slimmer build. Or kind of like an olive-skinned brunette edition of his sister Lil, with much bigger breasts. And lips. Mr. Penis was giving her a big thumbs-up.

Gary chatted with Carmalita about what she thought of the U so far. He talked a little about his time at college.

"But hey, summer," Gary concluded. "I'd rather enjoy myself. School's not bad, but I know what I like."

"I can stand behind a man who knows what he likes," Lita said.

"Met any guys you like at the U?" Gary asked.

Lita raised an eyebrow. "Nobody much here yet in summer," she said. "There's one cute guy... but I think he's probably too shy." She smiled.

Lita directed Gary to a parking lot beside a large older house at the edge of the U that now had a handicap access ramp and a sign describing it as the "Candye Kane Scholarship Center". Gary followed her up the ramp. She let them in with an electronic key-card, and she stopped in the lobby to check a mailbox with her name.

The lobby was empty. Gary looked in a glass display case to see a framed photograph of a fat woman with a cute round face. She was dressed in a slithery silk evening gown, holding a microphone and standing in front of a piano. Maybe she'd endowed the center? She certainly was well endowed herself, and the gown was cut to show it. He looked more closely at the picture...

"C'mon Gary," Lita said, "They left my books in the lounge." She led Gary down a hall and down a flight of stairs to the room she had described earlier. There was nobody in the halls. Gary was a little amused to see that indeed, the lounge did have a red carpet. And there was nobody here either.

Lita's books were on a side table. Gary stepped up behind her and looked over her shoulder to see what she was studying. Her perfume tickled his nose pleasantly. One book in particular caught his eye. Mr. Penis came to attention again.

Lita bent down to pick up her books and bumped into Gary. "Oops," she said. "Hey, you poked me with something there. Text books turn you on?"

Gary wondered if he should tell her about the book or just say it was her.

How does Gary answer?
