Miss: You're called away

The vibrator orientation class goes smoothly, or so you think. You're catching the idea that a couple of the new mothers might be interested in staying after class to get your help in giving themselves happy endings. You wind up the session a little early, but by the time you're ready to help the new moms take their pleasure tools in hand, you get The Buzz from your duty pager.

"I'm so sorry," you tell them. "I can't stay."

It's just the beginning of a long overtime shift, going from room to room attending to the fussiest crew of mothers-to-be you've ever seen. Two deliveries -- no complications, but draining. One of the moms left fingertip bruises on your forearm, clutching at you during the final siege of contractions. At the end of your shift, you give Vincent a text and collapse onto one of the "Daddy cots" in a quiet room.

Julie's shift ends two hours later. She snuggles up behind you. "Let me take you home," she says.

"Vincent knows I'm here sleeping," you say.

"No, my home," Julie says. "My husband's away."

"Huh," you say sleepily. "Well."
