Chapter 3

what is Mr. B's problem?
"Mr. B" tells his story
“Mr. B” was a 34-year-old average guy. He stood a little under 6-feet in height and was in pretty good shape. I had checked him out before we met – He had started a little computer consulting company right out of college and had run it well. He now had 40 employees and a multi-million dollar annual gross. He had also just been toasted in a nasty divorce; he had lost his 2 kids, his house and car, and a healthy chunk of money.
I met with “Mr. B” in a out-of-the-way dinner in the middle of the afternoon. We sat in a booth near the back. The place was deserted. The waitress dropped a couple of coffees on the table and disappeared.
“Mr. B” began telling me his sad story. His ex-wife wanted her freedom and his kids; when “Mr. B” resisted her over the divorce, she got him good. Her lawyer **** a trial and they ended up with a woman judge who had a reputation for sticking it to men. When the ex-wife’s lawyer produced “evidence” of pornography on “Mr. B’s” home computer the judge ruled completely in his ex-wife’s favor. She got the house, the car, the bank account, a huge settlement, and complete custody of the 2 kids. “Mr. B” could only see his children one day a month and then it had to be with a court-appointed supervisor.
“Mr. B” was in tears. He protested that the porno wasn’t his; that even if it was, he was too good with computers to leave that kind of evidence. He really didn’t care about the house, or car, or money, but he wanted his kids back.
I tried to calm the guy down. I told him I had checked out his wife and the judge and that I had check out his situation – I believed him, I thought that his lawyer was a piece of crap and that later we could take care of him, and that, if he was willing to work with me, he could get some sweet **** and get back his children and a big part of his settlement.
I wrote down a number on a slip of paper. “$1,000,000 in cash.” That was my fee. He didn’t have to pay it until the job was done. Was he interested?
Does "Mr. B" accept the offer?
