You pull back from Miriam, and she laughs warmly. "I see you are too shy to accept my affections today. Adina was the same way when she first came here. Luna though fell into my embrace at the first moment, and sometimes I think she prefers my company over the master's."

Luna blushes as Miriam gives away her secret, but when Miriam leans over the rim of the tub to taste Luna's mouth the girl meets the kiss with enthusiasm.

Pearl speaks up. She does not sit near the tub, but away at a distance working on a piece of embroidery. "It would be good for you to get used to kissing Miriam. The women do not stop arguing and gossiping for the duration of your bath, but they wash and comb your hair, and help you dress afterwards. As you listen you begin to get a sense of the large number of people in the household and the complex web of amorous connections between them.

When you are finally clean and presentable they stand you in front of a tall mirror to show you how pretty you look in your new sheer gown that leaves little to the imagination.
