Chapter 3 by Trancendent Trancendent

For vengeance!!!!

Vengeance! (Pick this option, the other was put in by mistake)

For a year the city had been under siege. A fleet of ships had blocked off the harbor, and around the walls lines of trenches set up, cutting off the food supply. Starvation was slowly taking its toll on the defenders, and the attackers had heard the noise of riots from within during the last few days.

The trebuchet’s had been flinging rocks nonstop these last few months, and the walls were clearly beginning to weaken. Everyone knew it was only a matter of time before there was a breach, and it couldn't come any sooner. Angry plague and dysentery stalked the tents like demons. Fear, anger, hope, all mixed together into a jumbled mass that cried for release. No one knew what might happen when they finally assaulted, but one was clear: all the pent-up emotion, hardship, and frustration the besiegers had endured these past months would be slaked upon the defenseless city once the sack began.

And then, without warning it happened. A mighty boulder hurled at the wall knocked part of it down, massive blocks falling away upon the defenders crowed in the streets below. A breech Thirty feet wide now lay within the walls. Lord Harzal, the former ruler who had hired this mighty host, gathered his captains for consultation, and gave the order everyone had been waiting for.

"Assemble the army at dawn! We **** at first light!"

Arrows whipped past Paizar Ilu’s face as he and his guards charged through the breech. His sword was raised high as slashed down, decapitating one of the soldiers, blood spurting from the stump that had been his neck. Raising his round shield high, he deflected an arrow shot from the shadows,. Moments later the archer, now fleeing for his life, was cut down by one his guards, the rider’s lance stabbing through his chest, the head coming out smeared with blood.

Paizar pulled aside a massive barbarian one of the mercenaries, hurried past his, his massive two handed sword stained with blood. No doubt, on his way to lot the city as his will, Paizar knew with some bitterness. He had argued with this uncle on this last point, had spoke against it. How were they to retake the city and rule it if they let their soldiers brutalize the populace. But his uncle had been adamant. “We cannot pay the men from our own coffer’s,” he had explained. “It is barely enough to get them together in the first place. Many will come only if the promise of plunder is there. It is the only way to succeed. Besides, none of the city folk chose to stand with us when Sabella the Whore overthrew out regime. Why should they not taste the fruits of their disloyalty?”

Paizar could think of a dozen reasons why, but none would sway his uncle. The old man had seen his own wife and children cut down before his eyes, and yearned for vengeance. That was a feeling Paizar could well understand. He had little love for Andrapur. In the years since they had left he had made his fortune elsewhere. Once the city was theirs he had no desire to remain, and would return to his interests to the west. He was here only for ****, against Sabella, Darak, and all the rest of their lackeys.

His uncle had given him a series of tasks that had to be accomplished to help consolidate their victory. But Paizar had his own agenda, and while he would not ignore his uncle’s orders, he had his own affairs to see to. While fulfilling his uncle’s bidding, he could hardly be faulted for settling a few scores of his own.....

What shall Paizar do first?
