Chapter 4
by xeter
What's next? Who is the character that you've chosen?
A young earthling at the wrong place and wrong time
[Prologue]
Born as the lonesome Max Ryder. You weren't the most bedazzling character perhaps. Being a shorter fellow had never had its perks, and your greasy hair certainly never scored any points with the ladies. But one thing you did have under your belt was a thorough knowledge conspiracy theories, you prided yourself on knowing the truth behind Bigfoot and Abraham Lincoln. But one mystery has always Befuddled you beyond belief, the existence of aliens. Not just the flying saucer, little green men style stuff, but real aliens do they exist?
Your deepest searches had come acrossed cryptic references to things called the stargate, and Ancient aliens much like that show you avidly watch whenever you get the chance. Unfortunately you had never gotten concrete evidence despite all your efforts. At least until now.
You see your more of a couch potato kind of guy, hiking through the woods at night is really not your thing at all. You would much rather be at home with a good video game to waste away the hours with, rather than the musky darkness and the pesky mosquitos sucking you dry. But your best friend Ralph was an avid theorist like you, and in his usual fashion he left a series of notes meant only for you which gave a obscure GPS coordinance quite a few miles from any vestige of civilization.
Upon reaching the location however, you didn't fail to notice the overly dramatic let down of the place. Surrounding you were the tall trees of the forest of course, and a rather open grassy field entirely empty except for a few moonlit lilies slumbering through the night. It would seem crazy old Ralph was a little too crazy after all, he had you hike to a secluded location for nothing at all. Checking your watch to find it well past midnight, you shrug and stride into the field glancing around for any sign of why Ralph would have sent you here crazy or not.
Alarmingly however a vicious peal ripped through the sky above you and a frightening fireball began to descend rather erratically somewhat in your general direction, which on instinct causes you to run for the trees and dive bomb Behind some standing stones perched there. 'What had mom said about raining fireball's? Surely it can't be much different than lightning. Just stick to the trees and you'll be fine max.' Fortunately the ordeal ended rather quickly with a sonic boom which blew your eardrums a new one and rocked the trees which surrounded you ominously.
Gathering his courage he turned towards the resting place of the infernal meteorite only to discover much to his amazement the relatively intact shell of a intelligently designed spacecraft of some kind. Upon closer inspection it appeared to have sustained some serious damage possessing burn and score marks along its hull, as well as two major components being out of commission. The right thruster appeared to be producing alarming amounts of toxic fumes, while the supposed cockpit of the craft had been impaled by a tree upon impact like a spear through the eye of a great beast.
Max was elated at the find to say the least. Actual proof that something existed beyond us humans lay right before him. However he is sure nobody will believe him, so with more foolishness than courage he leaves his hiding place and approaches the nearly derelict spacecraft. It's smooth Grey hull was bizarre at first, but it seemed to sense his presence and a human sized hole opened inward on its seem less skin. Granted the craft was impaled on a tree so the opening sat almost horizontally from him, but with a little climbing max soon found himself entering the belly of the craft.
Much of its interior was a mess of course. The decor was gold surprisingly, not at all what he was expecting from aliens at all. And further bewildering were what surely had to be ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics littering the walls as well. Unfortunately for him, he was never too apt to study dead languages so their written meaning went way over his head.
Around the cabin however was a horrific sight, bodies. Three humanoids littered the cabin in various states of deceased distress, what remained of the pilot sat in his chair decapitated by the tree that had thrust itself through the window before him. You didn't care to look but his head also remained intact, now more akin to a holiday ornament affixed to the tree high in the rafters. The other two bodies had been thrown around the cabin, bones broken and bodies bruised into sacks of flesh. The two humanoids were not much to look at either and Max found himself ignoring the bodies for the most part, only remarking on the fact that none of the operators seemed that alien, perhaps this really wasn't an alien ship anyway. It could very well be some crazy government project which had met with unfortunate ends.
Despite the many questions the first chamber aroused, he knew he was in a hurry and so he set about finding a trophy to ensure the legitimacy of his experiences here. Which is why his eyes locked on the second door out of the chamber, and the last one left unexplored.
Approaching the door he was relieved to find it already partially ajar, most likely damaged during the crash. Fortunately for him however it allowed enough space for him to climb through into another room, this mostly filled with overturned cargo containers. Some of which were busted open revealing the shattered contents the once securely held.
Most of the room appeared to be ready for the scrap heap, which is why he was quite surprised when a pale white glow attracted his eye. Approach Unburying the matter of intrigue had revealed a small orb with innate carvings along its four arching girders that seemed to support the glowing mass in the center. With plenty of unconcerned curiosity he reached out and touched the orb, which much to his surprise seized up into a much brighter blinding glow. The white light developed tendrils which seemed to adhere themselves to his flesh and pull on him quite painfully. Just as suddenly it had began, it had stopped. The orb faded to black and so did Max as he found his knees give out from under him. He fell to the mangled floor and drifted into unconsciousness still gripping the now inactive orb.
The next thing Max's mind perceived was the 'whup whup whup' of incoming helicopters, which was enough to jolt him awake. The military was here surely, why wouldn't they show up to investigate a downed aircraft right? Except he was most definitely trapped inside it. Looking about him for some form of escape seemed futile, the only way out was the way he came. And his gut was telling him something big was waiting for him out there. He just hoped it wasn't the men in black ready to wipe his memories.
What's in store for max, and what was that device he encountered?
