Miss: Clara doesn't know anyone

Clara shakes her head and sniffles. "I don't know anyone," she says.

"Was Gina your lover?" you ask.

"My first and only," she says. "What can I do?"

You are not taking this miserable little creature on. But you have an idea.

"Clara," you say, "I have an idea of who you should talk with. Just a minute."

You open your purse and locate a tightly folded note from several weeks ago. You transcribe the important parts onto a new piece of paper.

"Go to the Atomic Truckstop on a Tuesday through Friday night," you tell her. "Ask Mary for a piece of pie. I think she'll be sympathetic." You fold a ten-dollar bill inside the new note. "You can tell her Nurse Gloria sent you."

"Thanks," Clara says.

Bread upon the waters and all, you think.

Catching Poppy in the act with Charles has left your motor running, so to speak. But you're not crazy enough to hit on Clara, the messenger of Gina's **** envelope.

You wonder if you can catch Brenda Box and ask her about the nursing intern and volunteer opportunity. If not, you should probably take yourself home. Vincent would be happily surprised if you jumped on him when he got home.
