Chapter 10 by reaper13

How eager is Jessica for the next date?

She is a bit bummed

The next day Jack has to wait until a break at work to text Jessica for another date. When Jessica texts back she says, “Sorry Jack. I’m not in the mood for a date right now. But you can come over if you like.”

After his job, Jack heads for the apartment where Jessica lives. When she opens the door for him he can see she’s a bit dejected.
“Hey Jack.” She says a bit unenthusiastic. “Come in.”
When Jack is inside he asks her if something’s wrong.
Jessica takes a seat at her dinner table and starts explaining.
“Earlier today, I had a talk with Naomi.”
“The friend with the joker face?” Jack asks.
Jessica smirks for a moment and says, “Yeah.”
Then the smile fades and she continues.
“I was talking with her. The conversation went to boys and she remarked that I was still single. So I told her I used to be single but not anymore.”
Jack smiles when he hears Jessica say she doesn’t consider herself single anymore. Does that mean she consider him her boyfriend? If would be amazing if she does.
“So then she asks what kind of guy I was dating and” Jessica sigh before continuing, “I told her you are white.”
Jack frown his eyebrows and asks, “What about it?”
“Well,” Jessica says. “Apparently Naomi thinks black women like us should only date men who are black as well.”
Jack is shocked. He has often heard about white fathers being offended at the idea of their daughters dating black men. He finds it incredibly racist, despite them always preceding their opinions on their daughter’s dating habits with ‘I’m not a racist but …’. Yet to hear someone from the other side suggesting a similar disgust for the opposite. Jack had always considered racism to come from white and be directed to blacks. Turns out it also goes the other way around.
“So yeah.” Jessica continues. “I got into a fight with one of my best friends over you.”
Jessica then lowers her head and looks to the ground, as if she is ashamed of what she’s done.

“Jessica, I don’t want to come between you and your friends. You know them for a lot longer then you’ve known me and are clearly very close to them.” Jack starts. “But you are such a great person, I don’t want to give up on you either.”
Jack takes a hold of Jessica’s hand and continues, “I’ve had a lot of great times with you and I’m not just talking about the sex.”
That got another snicker from Jessica.
“I mean, yeah, the sex is great, but even the times we didn’t have sex were great. In fact, I may not have said it out loud before, but I’ve started thinking of you as my girlfriend.”
This time Jessica’s expression shifts to a genuine smile.
“So if you’re up for it, I would like it if I could be your boyfriend.”
Jessica uses her free hand to rub something out of her eyes and says, “Oh, Jack. Of course you can be my boyfriend.”
Jack and Jessica come closer and kiss each other romantically.
“What about Naomi?” Jessica asks.
“In time, we can make her see that this tribal idea of splitting people up into groups whom you should or shouldn’t interact with is outdated. That way you can keep her as friend and have me as lover too.” Jack explains.
“She better.” Jessica replies. “I’m not planning on giving you up.”
Then the black and white lovers kiss again.

How does this situation develop?
