Chapter 31 by reaper13
How does the Eve’s first meeting as student body president with James and the committee go?
She has difficulty keeping James under controll
A couple days after winning the election Eve once again convenes with Michael and James. James is obviously still pissed about having lost and he is livid at the mention of a third white girl Wednesday being planned.
“Your little stunt is too dangerous, Eve. 170 girls have become pregnant. Don’t you know motherhood is a full time responsibility? Some of the girls already dropped out because of it.” James argues.
“I know, James.” Eve replies, ever her calm self. “And that is why we will be providing free anticonception for all the participants of next white girl Wednesday who want it.”
“Not enough.” James says. “I demand for these events to be canceled outright.”
“You’re just saying that because you’re afraid you’re going to lose your chances with white girls.” Michael says.
“And what the hell is that supposed to mean?” James asks, now redirecting his attention to Michael.
“Gentlemen, please.” Eve says. “Stay on topic.”
James holds his tongue, though with great ****. Michael smirks at James for having been silenced.
“Thank you.” Eve says. “Now, about the ‘white for whites’ group …”
“They are an organization separate from mine.” James interrupts.
“But they do support your opposition against the mandate.” Michael says.
“They are a reaction to your movement, Eve. If you had not come up with this **** interracial copulation the white for whites would never have risen up.” James explains.
“You’re not going to accuse me of all the things they have done, are you?” Eve asks.
“They are responsible for their own actions.” James says.
“They are a white supremacy organization, Just call them for what they are.” Michael interrupts again.
“And you are a goddamned black supremacist, Michael!” James says, redirecting his anger at Michael again.
“I beg your pardon?” Michael replies, clearly shocked at the accusation.
“Guys please!” Eve says with a raised voice. “You two are not helping anyone.”
The two men remain silent, but they eye each other angrily.
“James,” Eve begins. “You represent the opposition. The ‘white for whites’ group opposes the mandate. That means they are affiliated with you, whether you like it or not. And these posters of theirs …”
Eve slides a ‘white for whites’ poster denouncing white girls that have gone black to James.
“… cannot be tolerated. It is racist, plain and simple.”
James looks at the poster and sighs. “I will have a talk with Johnathan. From what I can tell, he seems to be the leader of the ‘white for whites’.”
“Thank you.” Eve says.
“But I will still oppose the next white girl Wednesday.” James immediately follows up with.
“You can try to convince students not to participate as much as you like, as long as you don’t try to block access, reveal the identities of those that participate and don’t engage in racism.”
With James convinced to keep the ‘white for whites’ under control the stage is set to start organizing the third white girl Wednesday. There is however one more person who could interrupt with it. Miss Carpenter, the university president.
“The year has only just begun, yet I have already heard many troublesome things from our students parents, Eve.” The president started. “Enough to ban these ‘white girl Wednesday’ as you call them.”
“No offence, ma’m.” Eve replies. “But the white girl Wednesdays happen off school grounds, you cannot simply ban them.”
“No, but I can make it difficult for students to participate.”
When Eve was informed she’d have to appear before Mrs. Carpenter, she realized it wouldn’t be an easy conversation. It is the reason she brought her two greatest supporters with her, Michael and Sally.
“Mrs. Carpenter, may I ask you a personal question?” Sally suddenly asks.
The university president looks at Sally but neither affirms nor confirms her permittance.
“You’ve never had an interracial relationship, have you?” Sally asks.
Eve feels like everything they ever fought for last year is about to come to an end. You don’t ask a question like that.
“I don’t see how something like that has anything to do with this.” Mrs. Carpenter says.
“You would be surprised.” Sally explains, “Before I did it I was all stuck in my white girl life of white culture and white point of view. Whenever I saw a news broadcast of a black person losing his life I always figured he was just ‘one of those other people’. It was after I had sex with a black man that I came to understand black people are human just like me. I got introduced to black culture, made many black friends. I even plan to marry a black man when I graduate. But most importantly, when I now see another shooting of a black man on the news, I am outraged. That man is no longer an ‘other’ to me, he has a wife and children. In short, interracial sex brought me a whole lot closer to my fellow man.”
Mrs. Carpenter didn’t say anything, but clearly thought about what sally said. Maybe there is hope yet.
“It is not my place to suggest you should engage in an interracial coupling, Mrs. Carpenter. But in case you are curious, I can set up a time and place for you to have the experience.” Eve suggests.
What is miss Carpenter’s response?
