Continue with the mandate

“Ladies and gentlemen.” Eve says. “I believe it would be best to continue with the mandate.”
“You cannot be serious!” The guy representing the oppose side, James, yells.
“The supporters lost. 42% is not a majority. We have that. You can’t do that in a democratic system!”
“There is only a 15 point difference.” Eve replies calmly. “If the oppose side had won by 70% the decision would have been made. But you do not have that level of support.”
“Besides.” Michael continues. “In this short time our support went up by 4%. If the students could just learn more what a positive effect the mandate would have I’m sure we can get even a 10% increase next time.”
“Oh, so you’re just going to keep voting on the referendum over and over until you win?” James says. “You’re just going to shove it down the students throat until they are tired of voting no and just vote yes to finally be done with the constant voting?”
“James has a point.” Eve interrupts the two men. “We can’t keep pushing the referendum indefinitely.”
Michael shrugs and says, “I got no problem with that. Just give us do the referendum maximum of 5 times …”
“No!” James yells, cutting off Michael. “This ends here! No more referendum!”
“Be reasonable, James.” Eve says trying to calm him down. “There has been too little time for the students to understand what they are really voting on. They deserve at least a bit more.”
James stares angrily at Eve, then lens over the table and says, “One more try.”
Michael sighs and says, “She asked you to be reasonable, James.”
“Three referendums total.” Eve says. “The one we just had counts as the first. So two more tries.”
Michael and James both arn’t happy with Eve’s decision. In the realm of politics, that usually means she made the right choice.
“Can you agree to this, Michael?” Eve asks.
Michael sighs and says, “Yes.”
Then Eve turns to James and asks him the same.
“The mandate only gets approved if 70% of the students vote in favor.” James calmly says.
Michael throws his hands up and says, “Oh, come on.”
“If the mandate can’t be shut down when the oppose side has more than 50% of the votes, then neither can the support.” James says. “Agree to that and I will accept.”
Eve nods and says, “Very well.”

After the meeting Eve runs after Michael and has an extra conversation with him.
“There will soon be a break, Michael.” Eve says. “I want you to publish the number of students who diversified and compare them to those before white girl Wednesday.”
Michael rolls his eyes. “You are now calling it white girl Wednesday too?”
“Sorry,” Eve says, “It’s the name everybody uses. It just got stuck. And make sure you also release some new propaganda. Many of the students will go home during the break. If we can get the idea of diversity in their heads before then …”
“Then the oppose side’s arguments can’t reach them while they think about diversity.” Michael continues, smiling now.
“With any luck, students will experience an interracial relationship while on break.”

The last school day before the break has another flyer go around campus. On it are a white girl and black guy holding hands, both of them smiling. Next their image is another testimony.
“Isabella,
White people have negatively impacted minorities for generations. I joined white girl Wednesday to show the time for white privilege is over. Nobody is superior, everyone is equal.”
Underneath that is another statistic provided by The Mandatory Diversity Committee.
“At the beginning of the year only 1.8% of the schools white female students had experienced diversity. On white girl Wednesday they were joined by another 4.4%, raising their number to 6.2%.
Diversity can be experienced at any time, not just during a school term. Across the entire campus 6.7% of all the students experienced diversity. Don’t be left out, experience diversity during the break.”
