Chapter 5 by reaper13

How do the students react once they learn about the Mandate?

As expected

At the end of the week, as Eve gets onto campus ground, she sees several members of the Mandatory diversity committee handing out flyers. Eve gets handed one of these and reads is as she continues to her classes.
“Last week’s questionnaire has thought the mandatory diversity committee that many students on campus are interested in discovering interracial sexual relations. Yet it also revealed only a handful of students are brave enough to act on it. As such, the committee is proposing an opportunity for all interested students to engage in anonymous interracial couplings. A hotel has made itself available where students of all races and genders can anonymously apply for an interracial pairings. If you have ever been curious, then be present on diversity Wednesday.”
Eve smiles. This should convince a couple of students. In fact, Eve herself feels like joining diversity Wednesday. She is willing to have sex outside her race and this would be the perfect time for her to do so. As the student body president she should be setting an example after all.

When Eve arrives in the class her friends, Sylvie and Christine, are already waiting for her.
When Sylvie sees her she angrily walks up to Eve and says, “What is the meaning of this!” Holding out a copy of the committee’s flyer.
“That is an option for people who have a desire to diversify to engage in it without being afraid of being looked down upon by our racist society.” Eve says.
She had expected people from the oppose side to come to her and demand answers. That is why the previous days Eve had been thinking of answers she could use.
“You honestly believe sex is going to make people be less racist?” Sylvie asks.
Christine grabs Sylvie’s arm and says, “Sylvie, calm down.”
“No!” Sylvie says. “This is insane. You can’t just demand us to have sex.”
“It is not …” Eve starts.
“Read the fine print!” but Sylvie cuts her off, showing Eve the flyer again.
“Later in the schoolyear there will be a referendum to vote onto a mandate for all students to have at least one experience with interracial intercourse. We hope you will all be there to show your support for diversity and vote yes.”
“Only you can make such a mandate possible.” Sylvie accuses Eve.
“Unless the student body votes unfavorably or the university President intervenes.” Eve defends herself.
Just then the teacher comes in, the lecture is about to start.
“We’ll talk about this later.” Eve tells her friends.
Oh boy, Eve had not expected one of her best friends to be on the oppose team. She had figured they are better than that.

After the lecture Eve tells her friends the same thing Sally told her a couple days ago. Sylvie does not seem convinced, Christine remains undecided.
Over the course of the day, Eve sees and hears students around her both call out in support as well as opposition to the mandate.
The following week opinions only became louder. The support side is very quick to accuse the opposing students of racism, which the opposers simply brush of as liberal extremism. The number of students who did so are small anyways, so why bother.
Then the mandatory diversity committee published the percentages of students that either opposed or supported openness to interracial pairings from the questionnaire they had.

White male students total 13530, those opposing 86.0%, those in support 14%.
White female students total 13500, those opposing 48.0%, those in support 52%.
Black male students total 2025, those opposing 13.6%, those in support 86.4%.
Black female students total 2025, those opposing 51.9%, those in support 48.1%.
Asian male students total 200, those opposing 67.5%, those in support 32.5%.
Asian female students total 280, those opposing 26.8%, those in support 73.2%.
Arab male students total 140, those opposing 28.6%, those in support 71.4%.
Arab female students total 100, those opposing 80.0%, those in support 20%.
Latino/ native American male students total 440, those opposing 31.8%, those in support 68.2%.
Latino/ native American female students total 500, those opposing 72%, those in support 28%.
Total number of students 32740, those opposing 62%, those in support 38%.

Once these numbers are made public, the supporting students learned they are not a fringe group but really much more numerous than they assumed themselves to be.
Supporters started to accuse white men of being racists, who then in turn accused black men for looking for handouts even in the form of sex.

But time didn’t stand still for the sides to talk everything out and ‘Diversity Wednesday’ quickly approached.
On that day, Eve stands in front of the hotel, read to enter and experience her first interracial coupling.

Do many students show up for Diversity Wednesday?
