It had been a busy week. Remembering my inability to “recover” and become hard again as quickly as Sarah desired, I paid a visit to my doctor. He readily agreed to give me a prescription for the “boost” I needed. The last thing I wanted to do was disappoint Sarah. Rachel and I had to attend a party Friday night, and it was awful. All I could think about was spending time with Sarah, and I wanted more than an hour or two the next day. When we were driving home, Rachel brought up Sarah’s name. She felt badly that she hadn’t spoken with her since she came home. I said she was probably busy with school and reassured Rachel that she shouldn’t worry. She took my hand and leaned over to kiss my cheek. “I’m so lucky to have you for my husband,” she whispered. I’ve got to go.” I told her I understood and arranged for her flight while she packed. “I want to drive you, Rachel,” I said as I dressed to take her to her flight. On the way, she sighed deeply and reported her grandfather’s condition. I reached for her hand and squeezed it. “Oh god,” she said. “ I wanted to make love to you so badly tonight, Paul.” I told her there would be other times and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She would let me know tomorrow how long she might be gone. “Call my cell,” I said as I brushed her lips, “I’m not sure what I’ll be up to or where I’ll be," I lied. I knew exactly where I'd be I thought as I watched her disappear into the building.
