It was interesting

Mark and Alex walked back to the residence chatting about what drills they each did, and what coach said about them. Alex was excited when he heard that Mark was pitching opening night, because he was playing first base to start the game. Mark was happy for Alex, he deserved it, not just because he was a great baseball player, but because he was an even better friend. Alex ended up parting ways with Mark half way to the residence when he forgot he had a date with Abigail, his girlfriend. Mark waved him goodbye and shook his head as he continued towards Sophie's room. Alex could be such a scatter brain sometimes, Mark thought. Mark reached the entrance of the building, waved to the reception man, and climbed up the stairs towards Sophie's floor. Mark knocked on her door as soon as he got there, but there was no response, he knocked again "Boo!" Mark almost jumped out of his skin as he turned around and expected to see Sophie with her trademark mischievous grin, but instead he saw Alice with a grin of her own.

"Jesus! Alice, you scared me!"

"Yeah, that was the point" she said as she looked at him as if to see if anything was wrong

"Stop that! I'm fine. Is Sophie inside, she's not answering the door."

"Well, if she's not answering to you, she must not be there." She said as she opened the door, to reveal it was empty.

"Where could she be? I thought practice was over? By the way, how did she do?" He asked excitedly. Sophie had always dreamed of being on the college cheerlead squad, after just missing out when she tried out in senior year of high school.

"She was great! She made my decision easy, she easily made the squad"

"Yes!" Mark exclaimed.

"Hey Mark, you were great today, I saw a couple of your pitches, and they were great! Coach told me that you got the nod for opening night. Congrats"

"Thanks Alice, means a lot! So, you know where Sophie is?"

"Not really, but I saw her flirting with the quarter back a bit. That's why she's held up a bit"

"Flirting?"

"Yeah, I asked her if that was a good idea, you know, with you and everything. She said that you guys had an understanding or something? I couldn't get the straight of it. Do you?"

"No! No we don't"

"I thought so, I told her, that she should confirm with you first, but she said it was fine." Just then the door opened, and Mark and Alice could see Sophie lean up to kiss some guy who was probably the school's quarter back. She then closed the door humming to herself all the while oblivious to the presence of Mark. She finally turned around

"Mark!" She said in surprise.
