Come up to them casually, then all-out attack, trying to spare bystanders

Gina walked up with a confident stride - under normal circumstances, the gentle up-and-down bouncing of her chest would attract quite a bit of attention, but as it was, all eyes were on the zasarians. One of the aliens was, however, watching his swarm-mates backs, and whirled around with guns leveled at Gina when she came within 20 meters. "Hey, you there! Maintenance-human!" the creature hissed at her in a chittering dialect of common. "Don't come to close with that thing! Get back to work, hrxxxxx!" it punctuated its works with an unpleasant aggressive shriek.

Smirking and giving the catgirl a wink, Gina kept walking forward, barrel of her flamethrower trailing limply along the ground held in one hand. "What was that? I'm having a hard time hearing you. You're telling me to get back to doing my job?" Velasquez shouted back to them, cupping one hand behind her ear.

As she came within 15 meters (8 hexes), Gina stopped and rested one hand on the supple brown skin of her hip, making an almost cowboy-like pose while giving the zasarians an unimpressed expression. "I gladly would, sir," Gina said in a voice dripping with sarcasm, licking her lips. "But I'm afraid y'all are standing in the way of me finishing maintenance up here." She heard the clicks of more firearms being readied underneath their ill-fitting tan coats. The goz looked over at her hopefully, then glanced subtly back and forth, looking for an avenue to bolt.

"What filth are you talking, bitch?" Another zasarian demanded harshly. "Get the fuck out of here, you cow, or we'll drag you back and use you for breeding!" "You see," Gina said, ignoring the invective comments but with a flash of violent intent in her eyes, "...part of what I do up here is burning away swarms of poisonous vermin. Now if you could please die nice and cleanly, that'd be awesome."

Combat initiative - Gina: 20, Goz: 10 Zas 1: 20 Zas 2: 6 Zas 3: 19 Zas 4 : 10. All Zasarians are standing in a line, 4 'hexes' long, and 1 hex behind them is the stand with the catgirl and Gilly. Gina is 8 hexes away from them. Zasarian stats posted in discussion thread, their main attributes are Defense 15, Accuracy 1, and 26 HP (16+10 armor) each. Note: Using a variant rule whereby nameless 'minion' NPCs only get 2 actions per round instead of 3, and another variant rule whereby psychics can't use more than 2 powers on their turn.

Gina and Zasarian roll a tiebreaker for initiative: Gina gets a 7, the alien a 2, so she goes first. Her first action is activating her 'Psionic Armor' power, giving her 20 HP of armor and a +3 Defense. Her second action is activating another psionic power, increasing her move speed by 2 (psionic score of 11/10=1.1 rounded up to 2, for a total hexes-moved-per-action of 5) for (1d4=4) rounds. Her third action is to move 3 hexes closer and laterally 2 hexes to gain cover, changing her effective defense to 18. Before she gets there, though, she has to weather the reaction fire of 3 zasarians with guns out: They roll 18 - 18 - 9, hitting her twice (especially since her defense vs. react fire is only 13).

Dual shrapnel gun damage: 6d4-2= 8. Stopped by armor.Spine-shooter damage: 2. On their turn, two Zasarians stay where they are and shoot at her more (those same two). 3, 16 with accuracy on first shot, 18, 5 on the second; another shrapnel hit, for 6d4-4=11. This destroys Gina's psionic armor and deals 1 point of damage to her. The good news is that the sharpnel guns are now empty even with their extended mags. Goz girl takes cover. Zasarian 4 grabs her and holds her in place, while drawing two combat knives. Zasarian 3 also shoots at Gina, with 2 R19 eagles: natural 1, jamming one of his guns. Zasarian 2 pulls out another shrapnel gun (just one) and shoots; 6, and then 13. This second shot narrowly misses Gina due to cover.

On her turn, Gina's first action is to use her telekinesis action to pick up the metal water tank she's using as cover and carry it forward in front of her as she advances another 5 spaces (her second action), giving her better defense against the incoming reaction fire of the the gun-toting zasarians. They roll modified 11, 7, and 2 - Zasarian 2 jams his shrapnel gun too, plus runs out of ammo. Then, she uses telekinesis again, this time as an attack: it creates a burst, catching Zasarians 2, 3 and 4, plus the goz. Using a skill, Gina exempts the latter from the damage and instead knocks her out of the blast without harm. Her psi attack rolls are as follows: modified 28, 24, and 19, all hit. They take 15+5('Vigilante' skill) damage each. She heals the 1 damage she'd taken.

Zasarian 1 drops 1 shrapnel gun, reloads the other, and shoots at her. Modified 14, a very close call but miss. Zasarian 4 pulls out a pistol and shoots; modified 19, hits for 1d6-1 = 2 damage. Zasarian 3 unjams one of his pistols and also shoots, rolling a 1 and promptly re-jamming it. #2 shoots twice with a spine-shooter: Modified 19, 10, 1d8= 8 damage, ouch! Gina is now at 5 hit points. However, it has now been 6 actions, and the 'void pulse' left by her psi-attack explodes, dealing 3 damage to each of them.

It's now her turn again. "Toasty" gets toasty with her flamethrower, having moved into position to angle the cone to catch all 4 of them. To hit, she rolls a modified 5, 15, 7, and 20. # 2 and # 4 are obliterated with 30 and 21 damage, and all the others are now standing in fire. That was just her first action. She then uses telekinesis to try and pick up zasarian 1 and throw him off the building; her psionic **** is 322, enough to pick him up. She rolls a modified 29 and successfully does so, killing or at least removing him. With her last move she tries to flame #3 again. Modified 15; the final zasarian is toasty with 27 damage

As the goz shrieked in utmost terror and ducked, squeezing her eyes shut, she heard the Zoxx enforcers cut with indiscriminate gunfire, heedless of civilian casualties. A tear rolled down her cheek as she cursed herself for her helplessness, unable to bear the fact that an innocent young human was about to die on her account. One of the zasarians shouted. "I got he- wait, bitch has psi-armor!" "Keep shooting, dung-eater!" the leader of the insectoids hisses, and the hammering of scrap shotguns, pistols, and the hiss of a scavenged spine-shooter pierced the goz's ears. More and more gunfire echoed around her, and her agonized ears could detect that the sound of the impacts was changing, turning into a metallic clanging. "Behind the water tank!! Keep up suppressive fire!" A third zasarian shrieked. "Don't give her a chance to- GAHH!" Suddenly the goz felt all the breath knocked from her lungs; the noodle stand exploded into splinters and scrap with a reverberating thump but somehow she wasn't harmed. Sticky, black zasarian ichor splattered against her back as she was sent flying, and a severed insectile limb flew past her field of view.

There was more shooting then, a LOT more. Most of it sounded as if it was hitting metal again, but she also heard the unmistakable grunt of pain in a feminine voice. "AIM FOR HER LEGS!" a zasarian cried. "N-no..." the hazy-headed catgirl murmured. But then she heard a secondary explosion followed by more hisses and chittering in pain... and then a wave of heat washed over her with a dramatic FWOOOSH! and those hisses turned into shrieks of agony. The fusillade of gunfire slowed, then stopped completely. The leader of the zasarians shrilled at his agonized subordinates: "No! Don't retreat! We can still take this b- wuh... what's happening, I can't hold onto the floor.. wait... no, no NO NO NONO-!" Suddenly that voice wailed in dismay and suddenly receded as if catapulted away with great ****. The other zasarian enforcer's voice chimed in. "P-please, mercy, we were just doing our jAAAAAAAAAIIEEEE!!" the sentence was cut off by another firey *FWOOSH* that lasted much longer than the previous one did. Halfway through the sound of erupting flames, the insectioid shrieking ceased.

Suddenly a firm grip closed on the battered goz's shoulder and pulled her to her feet, making her squeak in shock and nearly faint. Coughing, her eyes stinging in the smoke, she looked to see the casually smirking face of the human in the swimsuit-like getup, covered in bleeding scratches and with a long shard embedded in her left shoulder yet looking extremely pleased despite that. "You see, kitty cat," Gina said, "y'let those bugfucks have an centimeter, they'll take a lightyear. I think we could both use some medical attention, you wanna come with me to a decent alley-doctor I know down on the 2nd floor? I gotta get some painkillers in me before I face the emotional misery of explaining this shit to the motel manager." The goz fainted and fell asleep, and Gina rolled her eyes and sighed. "Shiiiit. It never stops, does it. Well thank God for telekinesis," she said as she mentally lifted up the catgirl and carried her to the elevator, leaving the dozens of shocked, terrified marketgoers staring at her as she did.
