Valerie considered herself open-minded despite growing up in a small rural Midwest town. Normally she rather get drunk and laid on a weekend then play a role-playing game with a bunch of nerds but she was adventurous to consider a first for everything. Besides she had a month to win her bet so what was one night if it would give her a chance to get into Kevin's pants?

"Sure," she shrugged and sat down between Jerry and Kevin.

"Great! We'll help you with the rules as we play," Jerry smiled, "but role-playing and fun are the important things."

"Are we all settled in?" Matt grumbled from behind his cardboard GM screen.

"Yeah," Val answered, staring at her character sheet, trying to decipher the statistics.

For the next two hours, Val discovered her inner thespian, inhabiting the character of the classy Companion Inara, brushing off Captain Reynolds' flirtations.

"So I don't get to shoot guns?" Val asked when the group got into firefight with a group bandits.

"You're a Companion, so no. The only thing you shoot is a client's load into your mouth," Matt laughed.

"I'm the mechanic, I don't like guns," Karen piped up, ignoring Matt's crass remark.

"Being the ship's only medic I patch everyone up afterwards," Kevin added.

"He's great with his hands," Laura giggled.

After the battle, which the crew of the Serenity easily won, they collected the bounty from a settlement town.

"So Valerie, what you think of the game?" Jerry asked.

"This is actually fun," Val answered, stealing a glance at Kevin and unconsciously brushing her hair over her right ear.

"We play Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays," Jerry noted, oblivious to Val's attraction to Kevin.

"I wouldn't mind playing again," Val replied with a smile but then frowned when she looked down at her watch. "Shit, I didn't realize how late it is. I missed the last bus!"

"I can drive you home if you want," Kevin offered.

"Or you can crash here so we can keep playing," Jerry suggested.
