Chapter 9 by DragonStar1 DragonStar1

What does Kassi do?

Go find Glennon

"Go see if Glennon needs help with his exploring," Kassi finished.

Dalia nodded and turned to go tend to Janno the fighter. So, the female ranger quickly went down toward the back of cavern and followed the hole which the halfling rogue took.

It turned out to be a decent-sized hole, but one in which Kassi still had to crawl into. She quickly went in and started to follow where the hole led to. Several feet in, she realized a problem: she didn't bring a light and now she was traveling through a hole in the dark. Grumbling, Kassi continued on. She said this was what she was going to do and she was never one to change her mind just because the going got difficult.

She crawled along, frequently bumping her head into walls and giving soft curses when it happened. Every now and then, she tested to see if the hole ceiling was getting taller. It did a little and soon she was able to walk forward, albeit in a stoop. However, space then shrank and she knocked her forehead against a rock and muttered angrily.

"Who's there?" Came a voice from up ahead.

"It's me, Kassi," the ranger replied, hoping it was Glennon.

Apparently, she was correct since the reply came, "What are you doing here, ranger. This hole isn't that big. I can walk it fine, but you had to crawl."

"Yes, I did," Kassi admitted. "I just came along to see if you needed help in finding a way through the mountains."

"I'm over here," Glennon replied. "The ceiling is low, so you better crawl. Keep following my voice."

Kassi did so and soon she saw some moonlight peering in through a crack in the passage. "I can see some light."

"Over here, dear," Glennon said. "Around the corner is the opening."

Sure enough, Kassi saw much more light once she turned the corner. She saw the smallish halfling figure walk through an opening and what appeared to be the outdoors judging from the breath of wind wisping through the passage now. Quickly, she followed him out and they found themselves on a slightly boulder-covered ledge along the face of the mountainside.

Glennon scrambled up on a boulder and looked down at the valley. He pointed a finger into the center of the valley. Kassi wandered over and looked at what he was pointing at. Sure enough, there was a tower that jutted out from the valley floor. It must be the abandoned tower that the group comes for.

The two of them laid on their stomachs side-by-side, staring off at the tower. Then, Kassi noticed that a full moon was out and she could see claerly even at night because of it. It was actually a beautiful night. As she turned and laidon her back, Kassi could see the stars. She enjoyed nights as these. Being out in the wilderess, but still in the open and able to see the night sky.

"And what are you thinking about, dear lass?" Glennon asked.

Kassi glanced over. The halfling was looking at her curiously. His curly hair making him look quite cute even if he was small.

"Just looking at the stars."

"I see," Glennon said, frowning. He laid on his back beside the ranger. "Truth be told, I am more of a city halfling myself though my race also enjoys the wild. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the outdoors while growing up. Always working on my skills and hoping they would take me to the city one day."

Kassi smiled. "You know, Glennon. I never fully thanked you for saving my life today? I did say thanks, but perhaps I could do a favor for you."

Does Glennon ask for anything?
