Chapter 38: Sir Thomas Comes Home

As soon as Sir Thomas returned home, things started to change quickly. Initially the baronet was annoyed about the house’s new resident, but once he had given Caroline a thorough spanking, he felt better disposed towards the younger sibling. Needless to say, ever the spy, Abigail witnessed the incident through the keyhole with her hand rubbing her crotch before she returned to her bed to finish the job. She had felt every blow her sister had received and dearly wished she could find a man who would treat her in a similar fashion.

With the exception of Andrew, Thomas dismissed all his servants including the loyal Betty, giving the family a generous pay off and a house in the village. It was extremely traumatic for them after a life of service but Squires had other plans. For both of the female residents he provided a personal maidservant. These turned out to be none other than the 2 petite brunettes whose acquaintance he had made during that evening of debauchery a year previously. Of course now they could be addressed by their real names, Iris as Mary and Lily as Maria. 2 general maids, a cook/housekeeper and a kitchen maid completed the female staff with a butler and a footman joining Andrew to form the male component.

As far as the new house guest was concerned, the baronet figured that she was a diversion for his wife. Caroline had developed a nice social life for herself but his absences would prey on her mind far less if she had permanent company. He had noted that Abigail spent a long time in the library and so had not turned out to be quite the distraction he had hoped for. Perhaps there was some way of getting the sisters closer and more importantly out of the way.

In the third week of July, Caroline began to suffer from nausea so her husband suggested a trip to the seaside with her sister. At Scarborough they would be able to visit the spa as well as bathe in the sea. Considering their father’s views on the dangers of water, one might think the latter would be unlikely but Thomas knew his wife was a brave girl and Nathaniel was many miles away. On the Friday morning the 2 women set off accompanied by Betty as, for reasons unknown to them, Mary and Maria were unable to travel with them.

Later that day, Gillamoor Court began to populate. Libertines from all over Yorkshire arrived at the house with the promise of a spectacular show. Samuel Atha arrived in the afternoon and immediately joined Thomas in his study together with bundles of clothes from his cart. The cook made an extravagant meal for the party guests. Then, Sam gave a lecture on sexual mysticism and rituals that he imagined took place at stone circles before the host rounded off the evening by talking about the Greek gods and their festivals.
