The Jackdaw spots a disabled ship.

Only a few days into her voyage, the Jackdaw rounded a corner to came across a damaged ship. Her crew reported no signs of life, but Jenny decided to check herself. There could be valuable cargo aboard, she thought as she fumbled with her spyglass, or survivors aboard to pressgang into service- er, to rescue, she corrected herself.

Scanning the deck, she made out a gaggle of corpses. Two of them looked like merchant sailors or guards. The other was of more interest. A woman, fair-haired, in a white dress. Belly up on the upper deck.

"Jaysus!" Jenny cursed. Putting away her spyglass. It had only been a fleeting glimpse, but the sight of the woman had her thinking back to Caroline waiting for her in Bristol.

"What's the order, Captain?" Adéwalé asked. "Give it a wide berth or go in closer?"

"I'll go aboard." Jenny eventually decided. On her orders, a rowboat was readied, and Jenny, flanked by two burly crewmen, went aboard.

Jenny wasted no time, passing the two corpses to check on the woman.

It was then that the rookie captain made a very unfortunate discovery.

Clutched in the fair-haired woman's hand was a double-barreled pistol. A split second later, Jenny noticed the rising and falling of the witch's chest.

Springing their trap, the two dead sailors behind Jenny sprung up, cutting down one of her cohorts before he was even aware of them.

The woman finished the other one, sighting down on him and putting a ball through his throat without the slightest hesitation. As the woman rose to her feet, she kept her gun, and it's remaining shot, trained on Jenny's head.

"Captain Kenway, I presume?" The blonde asked. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance. Now, be a dear and raise your hands. I don't want you trying anything."

"Shite!" Jenny cursed. This would be the last time she played Good Samaritan for anyone.

Hearing the sound of the gunshot, the ship's crew, only hiding, not dead, sprung from concealment. Some readied the ship for a swift escape, while the remainder of them belted the Jackdaw's deck with smoke bombs, and fired muskets at the crew.
