Chapter 19

So, what to do with her then...?
She gives him a hint, before leaving again
"Is that all...?" The girl scoffed at him again, while Jack remained silent in thoughts, but this time he noticed the slightest hint of disappointment passing across her cute visage. At about the same time he also noticed that she must be quite a bit older than the boy he'd mistaken her for, and was probably much closer to Catherine than Kimberly in age.
{if Sam > 7}"Wait..." Jack suddenly realized something, just when she looked like she was about to turn and leave, which caused a curious smile to appear on her lips when he studied her face for another second. "You're that reporter, right...? I know I've seen you somewhere before."
"I'm impressed." She nodded, though she tried to sound like she didn't really mean it, even if she was obviously satisfied that he was able to recognize her. It still didn't help her attitude however, which wasn't so strange after all, considering their first meeting a few days earlier. "So, what about it?"
"I just want to know why you're taking pictures of me and my family." Jack frowned at her, while he found that the idea of a journalist stalking him was in many ways even worse than the kind of creep he'd first mistaken her for, and could feel his blood run cold when he pictured his already poor situation becoming a public affair. At first he couldn't imagine why the local news would take an interest in his life, but then he figured it might have something to do with his ex-wife's mysterious lover.
{else}"Well, I'm sure you'll find out someday." She continued, while looking like she was just about to turn and leave, but was kept in check against the wall, as Jack wasn't willing to let her get away so easily after all. That's when she reached for one of her pockets though, and held up some kind of ID in front of his face, which only made the frown on his face even deeper.
"You're working for the news...?" He asked her eventually, as he glared at the plastic card in her hand, and then finally he realized where he'd seen her before. She'd even been on TV some time, while usually asking some questions to local celebrities.
It still didn't explain why she was so interested in him and his family though, but he found that the idea of a journalist stalking him was in many ways even worse than the kind of creep he'd first mistaken her for, and he could feel his blood run cold when he pictured his already poor situation becoming a public affair. At first he couldn't imagine why the local news would take an interest in his life, but then he figured it might have something to do with his ex-wife's mysterious lover.{endif}
What if that bastard was somewhat famous, and often appeared in the news for the slightest mistake...?
"Perhaps I just liked your house." The girl simply shrugged at his suspicious glare though, as if it would somehow excuse all the hundreds of pictures he'd found in her camera, and it was obvious she was just trying to mess with his head as she continued with another enigmatic little grin on her lips. "Or would you rather believe I got paid for my trouble...?"
Jack was of course not sure what to believe at all, but as he thought more about it, it didn't seem entirely impossible for her to have taken some kind of side job, including that of working like a private investigator for someone else's account. Perhaps that man had a jealous wife, who'd been just as upset as Jack himself when learning about her partner's infidelities.
"Well, I'll see you later." She suddenly told him, while he was still lost in thought, and before he was able to stop her she'd already slipped out of his reach, and was quickly heading for the corner of his house. He still had a lot of questions for her though, but something about the way she smiled at him made him hesitate for a second, and he himself simply staring at her back until she disappeared out of sight.
"Dammit...!" Jack couldn't keep from swearing to himself, but with the girl's camera still in his possession he was fairly certain to meet her sometime soon again. For some reason his pulse seemed to be racing though, and it took him a couple of moments to realize there was something more than just anger and frustration among the chaotic feelings that swirled through his mind.
There was something else about this girl that had caught his attention after all, and as he walked back inside his house he found himself still remembering every detail of her cute young face, from the curve of her soft lips, to the gleam in her dark brown eyes, and even the sensation of her soft breath on his unshaved face...
How to carry on with the rest of the day...?
Girls of Jack
One man's world has been turned upside down, but he may find hope in the most unexpected places.
A story which I hope to work on when I have the time for it. For now it's closed for others, but I'll gladly accept ideas and suggestions for how to improve or continue the story! I've now started adding conditions, which is how I planned it from the start. So far it's recommended to read without activating the play function, but please try it out if you want, and let me know if you find something odd about the scoring.
