Leave a note for the girls and head out

Staying holed up isn't going to do any of you any good, and since the girls are in no shape to go anywhere, it falls to you to get things done. You scrawl out a hasty note, explaining that you'll be gone for at least a couple of hours and that you advise them not to go anywhere in the meantime, then move quietly up the basement stairs. For a moment, you can't help but pause and look back at the women, sleeping together in a mutual embrace, looking somehow very beautiful in spite of the situation. You can't help but re-think your decision not to take them up on their offer. The logical part of your mind tells you that you really shouldn't be thinking about sex at a time like this, but you can't help yourself.

With an effort, you turn away and head up the stairs. At the top, you close the door and find a big chunk of the ceiling to prop against it - it's too light to actually barricade the door, but it covers it so that a passerby wouldn't see it. With your gun at the ready, you set out to have your first look outside in days.

Deciding that the view from above would probably be best, you climb the broked escalators to the top floor and start searching for a door to the roof, all the while keeping your eyes open for anything useful. A luggage store yields a nice quality backpack and several travel kits with things like toothbrushes and other little necessities, and you pick up a pair of binoculars in a camera shop, but otherwise you find nothing of immediate value. A search through a utility corridor reveals a ladder to a roof access hatch, unfortunately locked with a padlock. However, the door itself is made of wood, and after a moment's sweaty effort with a discarded hammer you're able to break it off.

The view from the roof is not encouraging.

The sun shines through a smoky haze from any number of fires throughout the city. Down in the streets, cars are wrecked up against each other and windows are shattered up to the fourth level of every building. Through your binoculars, you see here and there a person digging through the rubble - exclusively men, as far as you can tell. Considering what Erin and Britney have been through, it doesn't surprise you that the women are hiding. Thinking of the girls down in the basement sends a momentary shiver through you, and you feel a twisting in your pants as your cock stiffens.

You search the city again through the binoculars. After scoping out everything else you can see from the roof, you come to the conclusion that the best thing to do would be to find a car in the parking garage and get out of town. The city is too dangerous, not only for you but for the women you must protect.

You head back down the ladder into the mall. Just as you reach the bottom and turn to go, you feel something hard and cold press into the back of your neck.
