Regardless of who said what to my building manager, you and your room-mates haven't been honest about the situation. I'm afraid the notice stands. You have to pay the rent within four days or I'll evict you."

You look at him in shock, your chin trembling as you struggle not to cry. You'd been so sure that he would agree, certain that he couldn't resist a request from a lovely young girl.

"But...but Mr. Berridge," you stammer, trying unsuccessfully not to whimper. "It's only a little time...just a little more."

"I'm sorry Lisa, my mind is made up," he says politely. "You have four days."
