Chapter 14 by Chaser IV Chaser IV

Follow the trail back to Pallet Town, or track down the mystery Pokemon?

Get a better look at the Pokemon.

Definitely not one of your better ideas, but you reasoned that you could get a quick peek and still be close enough to the town that you’d be able to hightail it back in case things got too out of hand.

Following the trail of disturbed grass, it took you maybe a minute or so to carefully make your way to a small clearing with a small, clear pond. A quick glance around didn’t show anything dangerous in the area so you made a cautious step out of the tall grass. It was a peaceful looking little area, likely a small haven for some of the Pokemon that lived nearby.

Unfortunately, you were unable to pick up the trail after leaving the grass. You hated to think that you ended up wasting your time and possibly putting yourself in danger for nothing, but there wasn’t much point in complaining about it now. So you make your peace with the outcome of your choice and started making your way back to Pallet Town to see Professor Oak.

Just when you turned around to go back the way you came, you head a sound behind you and quickly spin back to the pond. Across the water, you see a small yellow Pokemon with red cheeks looking straight at you. For a while, neither you nor the yellow mouse made any sudden moves. Despite all that you had been told, this Pokemon did not seem all that eager to just jump out and attack you. If anything, it appeared to be just as curious and cautious of you as you were of it.

You would be lying if you said you weren’t tempted to try and catch it if you could, but you lacked the two main things required to do so: an empty Pokeball, and another Pokemon to weaken it in battle. Though given how docile it’s been since spotting you, you’d probably only need a Pokeball.

Regardless, you weren’t in a position to try and capture it and the longer you stayed there, the less likely it was that there’d be any starter Pokemon left by the time you got to Oak’s lab.

You make slow, careful motions to the Pokemon across from you in an attempt to communicate that you were leaving the area and that you were not going to try and attack it or anything. It seemed like a ridiculous motion, but without knowing what it was capable of it could do anything from spit fire at you, launch poisonous needles at you, or something else altogether (it was only later that you properly learned what Pokemon it was and the fact that it was an Electric type)

Thankfully, it didn’t seem inclined to attack or pursuit you. You made a note in your mind to head back when you got some spare Pokeballs and hopefully capture it, assuming you could find it again anyway.

All in all, you spent maybe 15 minutes in the woods. While it wasn’t as quick as you reasoned it out to be, it was still a relatively good experience all the same even if it didn’t entirely live up to all the expectation you initially had. You might not have gone in deep enough to truly get the most out of the experience, but you weren’t about to go any further in until you felt that you had some adequate protection.

With that in mind, it was probably a good idea to head to Oak’s Lab. Unless there was somewhere else you wanted to stop by first?

Next stop: Oak’s Lab? Blue’s House? Back home? Or somewhere else?
