The Show

You drink up as ordered, and after a while the band takes stage and begins to play. It's a small four piece local rock band. They play a few covers of the latest hits while sprinkling in some really good originals. You continue drinking and enjoying the night and in time Sam has gotten you to forget your current situation and just enjoy yourself, to be present in the here and now, breathing in life in deep and wonderful breaths. Letting go of any stress and tension, of any misgivings to your current being, and just relaxing and having a good time.

But it's not long until the constant supply of **** starts setting in. Relaxing to your surroundings, your body unconsciously swaying to the rhythm of the songs they play. It's almost like the lead singer is singing directly to you with his intense stares and bold lyrics, telling you a story of life, and love, and sex, and pain. Soon you find that you're captivated by the show. It's probably the combination of being center-stage with a microphone in hand and all those lights focused on him, but you find it's hard to take your eyes off of him. Besides his compelling lyrics, his dark hair, piercing blue eyes, and chiseled jaw with the shadow of three days stubble all combine to really confuse you. You begin noticing the way his shirt falls on his figure as he sings on stage, accentuating his broad shoulders, the way he's left the top few buttons open to reveal his chest. His tight pants hugging his waist, highlighting the unmistakable bulge. You're **** to admit it but he's unequivocally sexy. You find yourself singing along with him, hoping to catch his eye, hoping he'll notice you, and often you get just the right glance to think maybe you have.

And after what seems like an eternity of personal connection between yourself and the band, of inspiring words and heart-melting songs, the show draws to an end. Your attention comes back to the present and you notice that you've lost track of Sam. You start to look for her but immediately are made aware of the fact that this new body of yours can't hold her liquor well. The room begins spinning and you're seeing double. You've managed to get drunker than you've been in a long time. You can't even begin to walk straight, especially in these high heels but somehow you manage to stumble your way to the restroom. Catching yourself with a drunken "Aha!" moment as you almost go into the wrong one, you make your way to a stall to sit down and gather your senses.

Taking your time to focus on a single spot, allowing your breath to become more measured and comfortable. You disregard the various noises of women coming and going, of the thought of being unsure and uncomfortable, relaxing your body and letting your muscles lose their tension as you concentrate on allowing this sloshed vertigo to pass over you, to regain focus, and to control your body. Breathing in and out, allowing the dizziness to subside and the casual buzzed and laid-back feeling to settle. Succeeding in this, you once again head out to find Samantha.

But by now the bar has almost entirely cleared out and you still can't find her. Inquiring with the bartender she hints that perhaps your friend has found a way home without you but you rebuff her implication, knowing that Sam would never leave you alone, not tonight. You decide to make one more pass through the club exhausting any clues that may lead you to her.
