A Universe where all the Final Fantasy Worlds are connected

The Djinn blinked and would have coughed if she didn’t have the ability ignore unpleasant environmental conditions like the smog hanging over the dull grey ruin of a city beneath her. It was ugly, a massive industrial structure in ruins sat in its center like the carcass of long dead tarantula. Half the city was suspended upon an enormous plate that had collapsed in one area, crushing the tenements beneath it.

There was still some life in the city, however, as she turned to see a huge swath of construction pushing out onto the plain beyond the dilapidated two-level plate structure of the ruined area. This newer part was still pretty bare and ugly but it was alive with people, vehicles, and steady construction. On the opposite end of this new bustling district was a gleaming high-tech facility made up of smooth flowing lines with a silvery sheen to whatever material it was made from. There was a strange ring the size of half the structure rotating in the air above it, all glowing neon green and golden with looping patterns of sculpted metal. It looked completely out of place as if it was made by a totally different society than the one that lived in this disaster area of a city.

She felt something that resonated with her powers originating in that odd place and she teleported closer. From her new vantage point she saw vibrantly colored pools of swirling energy floating serenely in a half circle around the facility which had lengthy metal dock structures leading out to each one. As she watched one of the pools brightened and seemed to explode with light and contrails of scintillating energy and then a ship of some kind came out of it to float over to an open slip at the nearest dock.

Ah. They were dimensional portals! No wonder she’d arrived here, such a nexus between realities would have drawn her in as if it were a planet and she were actually subject to the pull of gravity.

Hmmm… this would make things very easy for her. No need to expend any of her own power to travel somewhere else if she got bored.

Now the question was—did she want to stick around this sad sack of a place to have her fun or should she try out one of these portals?
