They reach Felicity

As Shabazza and Shyamali took their leave, Tommi returned to the table.

"So, what was that about?" Owen asked.

"Mu Mu has been trying to recruit me since High School," Tommi explained. "I've told them I'm not interested a thousand times, but they won't stop bothering me."

His curiosity piqued, Owen pressed on. "Well why don't you want to join?"

"To begin with, I'm going to join my mothers' sorority. More importantyl, all those idiots care about is size. My rack may be the seventh largest on Earth, but that is the least of my boobs' qualities."

This was true; Tommi's boobs were perfect in shape, color, and texture; they'd be gorgeous even if they weren't gignormous. Still, Owen didn't see why this was a problem. On the other hand, he could see that Tommi didn't really want to talk about it, and he wasn't willing to argue with her.

"Well, I'm done eating. Why don't we go talk with Felicity about putting Roxi next door to us?"

Felicity seemed rather amused by all the arrangements, but she agreed that Owen would probably be needing security. The way she kept smiling and looking at him, Owen rather suspected that she would have liked another moment alone with him, but the floor meeting was coming up and she was a little preoccupied.

"Just be sure to make it to the floor meeting yourself," she insisted. "The news is out about you, and I'm sure there will be some discussion of that."

Owen found himself looking forward to one busy night, first with the floor meeting and then stopping by Mu Mu later. He also for once found himself curiously alone, as the other girls went off to the library or a friend's dorm or wherever, leaving Owen in his room and Roxi in the next. He sighed hard, a little glad for the opportunity to get on with some actual preparation and study for classes.

However, the more he studied, the more he found his curiosity to be provoked by the whole business of Mu Mu, and Tommi not being into it -- and especially the bit about their being all about nothing but size. he decided to check up on it.

He was pleasantly surprised. Owen had always wondered a little at the history of the Pulse, of how and why it had come and how and why it had altered the Earth, and it seemed that the history of the Mu Mu sorority held one tantalizing piece of that puzzle. One of the greatest academicians on campus was the still rather young Darien Cowan III, who was mentioned prominently as a Mu Mu sister. Evidently Darien was the latest scientist to attempt to crack the history and effects of the Pulse. She was the granddaughter -- inasmuch as the original meaning of such a term still obtained -- of no less than Dr. Darien Cowan, the woman to whom a post-Pulse planet felt gratitude, although it was unclear to Owen exactly how or why. Had the original Darien Cowan invented the Pulse? Or had she accidentally come across it somehow?

He did a little more research on Darien Cowan III, and was intrigued to see that she was working on stretching the effects of the Pulse even further. But which effects, and why? Unlike the previous two cowans, this Darien, to judge from her photos, was definitely built to Mu Mu proportions, and Owen idly wondered if he might ever be able to worm his way into one of her classes.
