Chapter 12 by Plissken
How well does your evacuation go?
It's not only your evacuation now
You walk behind Broderick into a village erupting in chaos, as people are gathering their possesions or trying to somehow waterproof their houses. You grab his arm and he looks at you.
"Yes, Mia?" he says and you feel like kissing him there and then, but stop yourself.
"Captain, do we have means to escape and set up a camp somewhere dry before the flood comes?" you ask and reluctantly let go of his arm.
"Yes miss, you don't have to worry your pretty head about that." Broderick says and winks. So it took only climbing into bed with him to make him lose even his public grumpy persona, you think to yourself. He turns and you grab his arm again.
"What is it now?" he says, not angrily, but definitely impatiently.
"If we have such means and time, I say we set up a larger camp for everyone here and help them until the water comes down." you say and squeeze his forearm, adding "Please?"
Broderick thinks for a second and then nods. He yells out orders to his men and starts organizing the villagers as well. He commands real respect and watching him makes your tummy all tickly. You wouldn't mind showing some of your own respect to him right now. It's almost as if he wakes you up from a dream when he approaches you again.
"Mia, take the women and children to the flat rocky patch up the hill." he points at the spot. "I already sent out some of my men to set up the camp and there are caves to accomodate more people for the time being. I'll stay here with the men from the village and try to prepare the town for the hit, so the damage is lessened." he says. You nod and look around, seeing none of your bodyguards in the near vicinity. You quickly stand on your tiptoes and place a little peck on Broderick's cheek. "Be careful." you say, turn around and walk away to take care of the now refugees. You can almost feel Captain's surprised look on your back and you sway your hips with extra energy, so he has something to rest his wide open eyes on.
You manage to organize the women and children, but the walk up the hill is hard and it takes you a whole day. But you do get to know the people and all the women have nothing but compliments about your looks, to which you just blush. Few of the younger women and girls made a beautiful flower crown for you, which you accept while giggling and after letting your hair loose. Your "cover story" feels much more natural (and fun!) than your boring past identity.
You arrive at the camp. Everyone is tired, but the mood is better than before. You let everyone settle and organize the men to start fires going. Standing near your own tent you notice a group of girls that weaved your pretty crown. They are pushing one of them towards you, all trying not to laugh.
"Give it to her, dummie!" they yell as she hands you a little piece of paper. "It's from your husband, ma'am." the girl in the front mumbles shyly.
"Oh, Sir Broderick is not my husband." you smile and thank them. They obviously read it, but what can be so funny you don't know. You unfold it and read:
Come into my tent tonight. Be difficult.
You bite your lower lip and look down, at the silhouetted men coming up from the now surely flooded village. They will be here in few hours and your Captain with them.
What will you do when he gets to the camp?
