Payment

Uncle Ron looked down at Betty. She lay exhusted on the table that was serving as a fake altar. "I think we're done for the day. Lynda, help Betty up and get her dressed. Archie needs to get her home. Archie, come with me!"

Archie followed Betty's uncle down the stairs into the storeroom where they had left their clothing. "Get dressed, kid."

Archie cleaned up a little in the small sink and then put his clothing back on. By the time he was finished, Uncle Ron was waiting for him back in the studio. "You and Betty were great. I've got a little present for you and a small payment for modeling. I'm sure there will be more later." Uncle Ron handed Archie a paper sack.

Just then Lynda, wearing a smock, lead Betty back into the studio. Betty was dressed in the same clothing she wore earlier that morning, but she looked dazed and confused.

"Well, Archie," Uncle Ron instructed, "you better get Betty home. My brother and sister-in-law will be home later tonight, and she needs to get rested before they get back. I expect to see both of you back here next Sunday afternoon. Be here at 1:30. Tell your folks you have a job and that you won't be back until about 8:00."

Archie helped Betty out of the studio and into his car. Before he pulled away, he looked in the sack. It contained two white envelopes, one labeled "Betty" and the other "Archie" and a smaller silk bag. Opening the envelopes, Archie found five $10 bills in each. He then opened the silk bag. Archie grined his wide-boyish grin. He started the car and headed for the Cooper home. Betty lay back in the seat, seemingly unaware.
