You and Bobby at your uncle's

Amber's car is newer than that of most teenagers and near invisible to cops as they are looking for beaters and sports cars and fast driving. So while one state cop car zoomed around Bobby on its way to the Smith place and several were seen with the lights on heading towards the cottage while he drove back to town they didn't bother him as they assumed he was older and not up to trouble. You also make it back to town without much trouble.

You and Karen worked out a story of camping out at Lost Turtle Lake (near the Smith's) and the sounds of the woods scaring her (actually they would scare you more than her but you weren't really camping anyway) and you going back to town because of that. The cops had set up a road block but seeing two sleeping bags on a tarp covering the other bags and contraband (they assumed camping gear underneath) they let you go. They never took your driver's license or asked Karen for her I.D. The officer addressed you as Mr. Jonson and the van is still registered to your uncle for cheaper insurance. You think as you drive away that they assumed you were your Uncle.

Because of the road block, Bobby has already got Amber's car in the garage and out of sight when you park your van in its regular spot in the driveway. You made Bobby a key to the back door but he and Amber are sitting on the steps waiting for you. Bobby has a finger to his lips in a shush motion and his other hand is out, palm toward you like to stop. There is a problem.
