I was forced out of my sleep with the sound of my phone ringing. I grumbled and felt around for my phone. I finally caught it and looked at the caller ID.
"Sarah"
I immediately got off my bed and started to pace across my room. "What do I do?" I told myself. Before the ringing stops, I pressed the answer button. I put the phone to my ear and only heard silence.
"Hello?" I timidly called out.
"Jake..." Sarah's melodic voice came on. She sounded like she was crying because she was sniffling.
"Um. Hey Sarah. Is something wrong?" I asked.
"Ca-...Can you come over? Please?" she softly said.
"Sure, I guess." was the replied. As soon as I said that, the call got disconnected by Sarah. I looked at my clock and saw that it was 4 in the morning. I quickly put on a clean shirt and a pair of jeans. I quietly exited the house and walked over to Sarah's house.
The house was completely dark and quiet. There was one room that was illuminated and that was Sarah's. I went to her dad's shack and got out a ladder. I placed it on Sarah's window and slowly climbed up. My heart was pounding since I was unsure as to was is gonna happen. Sarah saw my ladder and she quickly opened her window. She let out a little smile at my actions.
I climbed into Sarah's room. She closed her window and we both sat on the floor, unable to meet each other's gaze. There was so much awkwardness and tension present.
"So, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Jake. Please don't freak out." she started.
"What is wrong?" I repeated. I was starting to get worried that something bad happened.
Sarah got up and walked to her bed. She picked up a white stick and tossed it at me. I failed to catch it and it landed a few feet away from me. I gave her a confused look as I reached for the stick. I looked at it and saw one word.
"Positive."
