Chapter 2 by nyolotto
Where should she go?
To Hang Out With Lisa
Luckily for Iris, she did not have any classes that day, and she knew just the person to see about her 'love problem'. Lisa Dayholt had been best friends with Iris since they were two, and though they did have vastly different interests, the two found that their differences actually strengthened their friendship.
Iris left her apartment and walked to the large house beside it. The Dayholts lived there, right in between the apartment Iris lived in, and the house Iris's parents lived in. The Dayholt house was practically a mansion, and many people referred to it as a 'Manor'. Iris didn't know much about technical house terms, but she did know that the chances of Lisa being there were pretty high, and that was all she needed to know.
She rang the doorbell and waited less than a minute for someone to answer. Though the Dayholts were incredibly wealthy, they also didn't see the need to have a butler or maid, since most of the house had been empty ever since Lisa's mother had died.
Iris was a bit shocked to see that instead of her best friend opening the door, it was instead her best friends father, Logan Dayholt. Logan was a CEO of a very large technological company, and the richest man in the entire city. Still, he treated Iris with respect and and trust. Logan always wore a fitted suit and had his dark-blonde hair slicked back. He looked down to see who was in front of him, and when he saw it was Iris, he moved aside and let her in, closing the door behind her.
"Lisa went to buy a new purse, her old one was starting to fade. She should be back soon, though." Logan said to his daughters best friend. "You can wait here, or you can come with me into the kitchen, and I can make lunch for the three of us."
Feeling a bit hungry, Iris followed Logan into the kitchen. The kitchen alone was as big as her apartment, and they always had the freshest food available. Though Lisa often insisted that Iris move in with them, Iris always had the strange feeling that she was being watched while in the large house.
Logan pulled out the supplies to make turkey sandwiches, he had known Iris long enough to know they were her favorite, and his daughter also enjoyed them as well. He started to make the sandwiches and motioned for Iris to sit at the island in the kitchen.
"Something's wrong, isn't it, Iris?" he asked her, not even glancing up at her from the sandwiches. "Don't look shocked, I've known you long enough to know when you've got something difficult on your mind. Tell me and you will feel better."
Iris knew this was true, Logan had always been a good confidant, and Lisa swore he never told anyone's secrets to anyone else, not even her. Swallowing heavily, Iris let out a sigh and closed her eyes before speaking.
"Ever since my birthday, I've been feeling like I need to have a boyfriend. It's practically all I can think about, and it's so frustrating. I want to concentrate on my schoolwork, not mentally sort through all the guys I've ever met and rank them." she muttered angrily. It was annoying the first day, but by the time she went to see Lisa, it was starting to become a hindrance to her and her productivity.
"That sounds like a conundrum. If you wish, I can gather photographs of some of the young men who work at the office and give them to you so you can find a male you find attractive." He finished making her sandwich, and slid it on a plate over to her. "By the way, where do I rank on the list?" He asked her with a slight smile on his face. Iris rarely saw him smile, and it warmed her heart a little to know he was smiling at her.
"I don't have them ranked perfectly, but you're pretty high up there, Mr. Dayholt." Iris said jokingly, but secretly really being serious. She knew that someone as rich as him, someone who had known her practically her whole life, someone who was still not over the **** of his wife, would never be interested in his daughter's best friend. He had far too much class for that.
"That's good to know, thank you, Iris. It's nice to know that it wasn't a fluke that Mina found me attractive." He replied wistfully, thinking about his dearly departed beloved. He sighed and shook his head lightly. "Maybe it's time I get back to dating. Lisa has been encouraging me to find love again for the past five years, but it's so risky, especially with the kind of money I have. It would destroy me if I fell in love with someone who did not truly love me back." Logan leaned against the counter, not really paying attention to how close his face was to Iris's.
The truth was that though he had known her for years, Logan was impressed with the woman Iris had become. She was polite, intelligent, and kind, she always put others before herself, and those were the qualities that had drawn him to Mina over twenty years prior. His eyes briefly met Iris's, and he opened his mouth to say something, when he and Iris heard the front door close loudly.
"Dad, I'm home!"
