Coach Phillips decides to assert his control

Taylor's flick of a glance gave Rot plenty of notice that Coach Phillips was finally making his move.

Rot kicked Taylor's bat to his friend Barry and spun to face Coach Phillips.

"What I don't get," Rot said to the approaching coach, is why students get in trouble for protesting the war or wearing jeans, but coaches are allowed to sexually **** their fellow faculty, **** young men who are supposed to be under their supervision, and promote barbaric homophobia."

Coach Phillips had pressed forward to the first of Rot's accusations but stopped dead on the third. "Huh?"

Yeah, right. In 1971, homosexuality was still illegal in most states and homosexuals were routinely bullied, beaten or ****. Coach Phillips probably thought he was helping his students by driving them to suicide.

"As you can see," Rot said loudly, "Coach Phillips is considerably larger and more muscular than am I. Sadly, this is typical. Few bullies seek out those who are stronger than they to ****. Which is why martial arts were invented... the point is to use leverage and technique to offset your opponent's greater strength... and ideally even turn their greatest strength into a weakness."

"Yeah, but how do we do that." He was happy to recognize Colleen's voice. As a judoka, she had to have an idea of how that was done but she was willing to play the straight man.

"What do you think, Coach?" Rot demanded. "Ready to get your face planted on the asphalt?"

"Get him, Rot." Miss Gomez's shout distracted Rot just a little--just enough that Coach Phillips took advantage of the moment to launch his attack.
