Sarah tries to bluff her way out
Yeah and it works somehow
Sarah forced a loud, high-pitched laugh out of Elena’s throat, trying desperately to smooth over the awkwardness. "Leo, seriously! Ever heard of knocking?" Sarah said, managing a remarkably accurate impression of Elena’s usual annoyed tone. She quickly pulled the t-shirt down which clearly showed that Elena had some great assets. Elena’s shoulders, smoothing it down with hands that still trembled slightly from the unfamiliar neural link. Leo didn’t budge.
He stood in the doorway, his eyes darting between his sister's stiff posture and the heavy, futuristic chrome helmet Sarah was wearing over on the couch.
"I'm just trying on some clothes for the going out tonight," Sarah continued through Elena, crossing her arms to deliberately hide the glowing silver chip on the side of her neck. She even forced Elena’s body to do a casual little hip-sway to look natural, though the movement was just a fraction too robotic.
"Sarah brought over this crazy new gaming headset her dad’s company is developing, and I’m letting her test it out while I change. Now, can you please close the door? "Leo crossed his arms, his gaze locking directly onto Elena’s eyes. As her brother, he knew her tells better than anyone.
Elena's eyes were completely glassy, blinking in a perfectly rhythmic pattern that didn't match her speech at all. "Right. A gaming headset," Leo said, his voice dripping with skepticism. He took a deliberate step closer into the room. "And I suppose Sarah always sits completely frozen like a mannequin when she's gaming? She hasn't even blinked since I walked in. "Elena's body stiffened as Sarah panicked through the connection.
From the couch, Sarah’s actual body let out a soft, muffled gasp under the helmet, which immediately echoed as a sharp intake of breath from Elena. "She's... in a deep loading screen!" Sarah bluffed frantically, stepping backward until Elena’s calves hit the edge of the bed. "Leo, I swear, you are being so weird right now.
Just get out of my room! "Leo’s eyes dropped straight to the blue light pulsing rhythmically against Elena’s skin. "That thing on your neck is blinking in sync with her headset, El. What did she do to you?"
