A Vault Changes

Brit's vault would randomly change. One day they would have a certain mission, like researching new plants and growing as much as possible for them and other vaults. A week or a month later, they'd get a new one like research new ways to gather or produce fresh water.

When she asked the higher-ups about it, she was told that it was because they were an 'assistance' vault. Their job was to adapt to the needs of other vaults. That a few vaults likely had problems producing food, which is why they were forced to research new plants and that eventually vaults had problem producing enough fresh water so they had to research that too.

It was the day after Brit's 18th birthday when they got a new mission... As always the Overseer and his advisors were the ones to tell the group about the new mission.

"This mission is...Um... Different from the rest." The Overseer said once everyone gathered around. "As you know we give constant updates to Vault-Tech. We tell them about our research, how our vault is doing, and about each other. Recently, they took an interest in Brit... They, um... Want to use her as part of a psychology experiment to understand the human mind a bit better. If it goes well, morale could go up across all vaults and there could even be a population boost."

"With all the raiders above the surface, improving our population of good hardworking people is important. It'd help us one day reclaim the surface once the radiation is gone and make it so people can live like they used to in the old days. Morale is also important so people don't fight in the vaults... Please remember that, Brit... This new mission won't be easy for you especially, but it'd also be important..."

Everyone looked at Brit nervously. They weren't sure what was about to happen, but they already felt bad for her.

"W-Well, that's enough stalling. I should just come out and say it. Brit, from now on, you'll-"
