Returning Home
The transition from the bright, suburban street to the interior of the house is jarring. As Cherie pushes open the heavy front door, still breathing hard from her encounter with Nathan, the cool, ozone-heavy air of the foyer hits her like a physical weight.
You are still tucked into the back of her mind, seeing the world through her dilated pupils.
The house feels... alive. The shadows in the hallway seem deeper, almost liquid. She wipes a bead of sweat from her forehead, her heart still racing from the "Ride-Along" influence.
In the kitchen, the sounds of low, melodic giggling and the clink of ice against glass draw her forward. She pauses at the threshold, watching Chloe and Jessica with Jason.
The scene is a study in calculated seduction. Chloe is perched on the counter, her legs swinging, her short-shorts riding high. Jessica is standing remarkably close to Jason, her hand resting on his chest as she "helps" him pour a glass of lemonade. They are both touching him—small, seemingly accidental brushes of skin that have the boy looking dazed and flushed.
Look at them, Cherie thinks. They’re like little predators. When I was that age, I would never have dared to be so... overt. But Jason looks like he’s in a trance. Part of me wants to tell them to behave, but another part... it’s the same heat I felt with Nathan. It’s like the girls have already realized what it took me twenty years to learn. There’s a power in being watched. There’s a power in taking what you want.
She catches Jessica’s eye. Jessica doesn't look away or flush with guilt. She gives Cherie a slow, knowing smile—a silent acknowledgement that they both share the same secret hunger. Cherie feels a spike of illicit jealousy; she wonders what it would be like to be that young, that bold, and have a young man like Jason at her disposal.
